1.) People really do fly into Boston to ski in Vermont or NH. Lots of them. Check a map. Locate ski areas. Try to find nearest major airport. Rethink your point #1.

2.) Checkpoints and administering drivers' tests for people South of the Mason-Dixon line who dare vacation in the winter up North. Yup, sounds much cheaper than spreading some salt on the roads.

3.) The Adirondack Mountains provided me many driving lessons, thank you very much. The terrain is just like Western NY - except that it's tilted.
Socialist. Why should the people in the northeast have to pay to take care of vacationing people that aren't from around there who don't know how to drive in snow?

I understand flying to Boston to ski in NH. I said Vermont. Reread my post. After checking a map and Priceline.com, I have computed that flying into Albany would not only save you on airfare most of the time, but will also save you on the rental car and gasoline. Nofee is happy...

If you traveled all around the 'Dacks...what are you b*tching about saltless utopias for? Most town roads in the state park use sand only. Obviously you lived through it...so it can't be that bad, huh?
