NFL: Jets CB Henderson injured in accident
Monday, April 05, 2004

Jets cornerback/special teams ace Jamie Henderson was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in the Atlanta, Ga., area on Saturday night and is in a local hospital. His injuries were described as career-threatening by a former teammate, who has been in contact with the family.

Henderson's agent, Pat Dye, said last night that the injuries were not life-threatening. "He was in an accident," Dye said. "It doesn't appear to be life-threatening. That's all I'll confirm out of respect for the family."

According to the former teammate, the accident occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight on Saturday. Henderson, who was believed to be wearing a helmet, lost control of the bike while making a turn at a high rate of speed. The ex-teammate said Henderson sustained serious head injuries and was in critical condition. Henderson, entering his fourth season, played in 14 games last season in nickel and dime situations. He recorded 11 tackles and three pass defensed, and was a valuable member of the special teams, finishing with 20 tackles, third on the team. At 6-2, 202 pounds, he gives the Jets size and depth in the secondary.

Jets vice president of media relations Ron Colangelo would only confirm the accident and said the club had "no comment."

The Atlanta police department's public affairs office didn't return several phone calls.

I wish to send my condolences to his family. I hope that he is ableto atleast lead a normal life even without football....

On another note, this means the jets will probably take a CB in the draft for sure.
