I don't know much about him. But an international striker, even if he is Americain, can't be all that bad.

I just read the info on the original French paper saying everything is set up, except the coach isn't too hot about it. Truth is, I don't think we really need another striker. He'll have competition in front for playing time. Hopefully he can push Kezman out of Paris.

Colony Capital, the owner is American and based in LA, the report is that they are the ones pushing for him.

I think it was up there long enough for most to see. Ches is certainly soccer tainted now-and will never live it down. He always lurks here anyway...skulking, watching, and waiting for a chance to jump in and moderate. He'll be back.

Hope he gets more p/t than at Bayern. Seems to have been playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder as of late. Of course, if he stinks this could go really bad for him and the owner. Nobody except the Raiders and Cowboys likes meddlesome ownership.

The previous Donovan rumor had him going to Mexico to play for Americas at The Azteca.

Screw France; it's a third-rate league and I'd rather keep him closer to home, if not in MLS.

Keeping him close to home won't do his skills or market price any good. The more I think about it, the more I think it would be a good fit for him. France is the Pop Warner of European football. It can be a ramp for better leagues. If he comes here, and does well, he'll be noticed and could be picked up by a better team next year (or who knows maybe play the Champions Leugue next year with PSG ) He got picked up before by Bayern but didn't play much. France could be the perfect match where he could legitimately fight for PT, while having more competitive games than in the US.

Davies is a good example. He's getting noticed already and started this weekend.

I think it's the best league for non-europeans to get used to the European game. It doesn't have the skill and thus level of competition of the big 4 but it's tactically as good if not better than the premiership. That's why you rarely go wrong with a transfer from the League 1, they are very developped tactically.

But Donovan? He's past the point where it's still possible for him to make it in europe what is he 27-28?

I think he'd be a waste for you guys.

I don't think he'd be a waste. Giuly and Makelele are over 30 and starters. If you earn your spot, I don't care how old they are.

I agree that it may be a little late for him to dream of making a statement in a better European League. The best thing that could happen would be to be in a good team in a lower tier league. With some luck he could play some CL games against some big clubs.

Are you seriously comparing Guily or Makalele to Donovan?

I wouldn't use them in the same sentence. Esspecially makalele, at his prime he was THE best holding midfielder in football, and Guily wasn't too shabby either in Barça or Monaco.

What has Donovan done to merit such comparison?

Now if you'd said Urlacher then we can talk...

Of course not...

I was just responding to your comment saying he'd be a waste because of his age (that's the way I understood it anyways).

We have starters on our team that suck more than him. Unfortunately our woes our defensive.

I meant he was too old to take the next step, he is not a scrub because of his age he is a scrub because, well, he's a scrub. If you got him 5-6 years ago maybe he would've become something but I don't think he can make the jump now.

Except that Donovan is already "mature" in soccer years ..... how much more "advancing" of his skills is there to be done?

He may not get better skillwise. But tactically, and in terms of experience he'd progress.

I still believe his style is more suited to play in Mexico or Brazil, even, but so long as he's in some teams first eleven and gets his minutes .... he will produce.

And I meant no disrespect towards France above, but I would prefer to see him not be so many time zones away or in the (gasp) Premier League.

Guys who post here know they're Italian.

Guys who lurk here and don't dare post because they think they'll get cooties will think I'm gay. BUT they'll never admit to having seen this in the soccer forum afraid of being laughed at.

Sooo, I'm safe.
