The Jets closed out Giant Stadium in primetime and open up the New Meadowlands Stadium in primetime.
That's nice symmetry. |
Not really.
From annonymous fans on the web, to the fans at the stadium, to celebrity fans like Joe Benigno, there is a picture of a woe-is-us, whinny, self-loathing, douchey fanbase.
+1, and threads like this one do nothing but help contribute to that image. |

I understand the pitiful "SOJ" mentality but this isn't one of them. |

+1 Really, the only proper solution. Actually, I thought this was the plan from the beginning but then the "coin-flip" stuff got me distracted. If you read the other article it appears that this was Goodell's plan along but he had trouble deciding who would have the Sunday game. He flipped the coin for that game. |

God damn it. I've got a 9 year old and a 11 year old and its a school night. My dream of watching the new stadium open in brilliant sunshine with my boys is ruined.

I could give a crap if people want to label me as whining.
We've been renting a stadium from another NFL team for the past 20 years. God forbid someone be disappointed at this latest gesture after being touted as "equal partners". |
...The commissioner said that, since both teams presented good reasons for playing first, he concluded that the fairest resolution would be to play both teams at home on the opening weekend and to make his decision on which team plays on Sunday by flipping a coin. The commissioner flipped the coin last Friday with his staff at the NFL office. He then notified both teams on Friday of his decision and that he flipped a coin to determine the team playing on Sunday...
I really don't care who opens the new stadium and I think the seeing a game on Monday night in September might be more comfortable experience anyway BUT why did they not have a public coin toss? A public toss would have made for more media coverage and would generate a ton free publicity? It might have even helped sell the naming rights. The coin could have been done on the new 'draft weekend' and grabbed another sports news cycle. I think the Giants were getting the stadium opener no matter what. |

And for all you who say this isn't a big deal, well if it wasn't a big deal then why did both owners go to these lengths to get the first home game in the stadium? If it's just people having inferiority complexes then why did the Giants fight for the first game at the lengths they did?
