UNDERRATED MUSICIANS
Please list musicians and/or bands you feel have never received full recognition for their brilliance or influence.
BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive). Randy Bachman is a very under-appreciated guitarist and songwriter. |

That was my first concert, 6th grade, Morristown Community Theatre. Saw him again in 8th grade, An instrument and a story need not a great voice. Saw his brother once, but, well you know.

Alex Lifeson...you always hear about Peart and Lee mastering their instruments. The third guy isn't too shabby either.

- Guitarist Martin Barre from Jethro Tull. Of course Ian Anderson essentially is Tull but Barre has been there most of the journey and has been terrific most of the time.
- Justin Hayward from the Moody Blues because most of the bands good songs are from him (too go along with some good stuff outside the Moody blues). He has that rare combination of being a great songwriter, great singer and good guitar player. - George Harrison for his solo work. (All Things Must Pass = brilliance) |

I disagree. Each has a loyal cadre of fans, but mention those names to most people, and they'd have no clue. Great that Mould is still rocking. I saw Husker Du a lifetime ago.

The Greatful Dead.
Gets almost no mainstream respect (usually mocked actually), yet kept "Roots Rock" alive, and was directly responsible for their very own genre of popular music (Jam Bands). David Gilmour. Sure he gets alot od respect, but not nearly enough for his talent. When Jack White and Joni Mitchell (wtf?) routinely are listed as "better guitarist" than David Gilmour, there is something seriously wrong. For example: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyl...-reveals-0528/ Iron & Wine (Sam Beam) All the brilliance and talent of a Bob Dylan, in a era that has no time for Bob Dylan types. |

Ryan Adams. Dude is ridiculous. He is so prolific, he has tons of unreleased music and entire shelved albums. His demos are better than 90% of "finished" music today:

I've never even heard of him or his group believe it or not but I like that style of music. Can you recommend one Cd of his that I should get?
