Here's all of his stuff with samples and reviews: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...ifexqujldke~T2 Click on the album name for the review. "Gold" is indeed great but it's also considered his shiny, over-produced, "breakout" record. That being said, there are a ton of great tunes on it, tunes he plays to this day and are considered RA classics. Last edited by RageATL; 07-23-2010 at 03:43 PM. |

Might as well add Derek Trucks Band to this list, the guy is BEYOND phenomenal on guitar: Coltrane's interpretation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Favorite Things": "Sahib Teri Bandi": Last edited by RageATL; 07-23-2010 at 03:48 PM. |

Glen Tillbrook of Squeeze. A recent documentary shows him wailing acoustic on a Jimi Hendrix tune. His band's style of music never lent itself to many solos, but this guy can really play.

Hornsby has always been one of my favorite musicians. I used to listen to "Scenes From The Southside" all the time. It reminds me of my childhood.

But I wouldn't put him on an underrated list. |

Or the Rolling Stone one discussed here a while back. Quote:
Frusciante? You kidding me? Thats exactly what I mean, to put Gilmour and The part-time-pepper-part-time-heroin-addict in the same building is an affront to Gilmour. Frusciante isn't fit to hold Gilmours pick, much less be consdiered one of the GOAT. |

After watching Beck's legendary shows at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club (I posted a thread a while back), I realized that there really has been no one like him, including Clapton. Beck has two passions in life: Guitar and working on his cars. I love Clapton, BTW.

To say that David Gilmour is underrated is absolutely preposterous. He's rated right up there with one of the greatest of all time (and SHOULD be). And for the record, Jack White IS an underrated guitar player. The guy can tear it up.
Fish. C'mon man. Silly. Harry Chapin. Vastly underrated. Most folks think that Cat Steven's wrote Cat's in the Cradle... or even worse Ugly Kid Joe. The guy was a brilliant songwriter. Underrated guitar player: Peter White. The guy wrote some of the most beautiful and melodic guitar solos ever. Please listen to any early Al Stewart stuff. Brilliant. A lot of people don't give Paul McCartney the credit for being as good a bass player as he is. His bass lines were impeccable. Same thing with Phil Collins as a drummer. Even people in the know don't give him the credit he deserves as a drummer. His work on early Genesis stuff is remarkable. |

I agree with Santana being underrated, and Beck is brilliant. A few of my underrated favorites, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Greg Howe, KimThayil from Soundgarden, Allan Holdsworth and Joe Satriani

For crying out loud, each of them has a "Signature" guitar from a major guitar company!!! Please use the word "underrated" properly, guys. |
