A couple things working against M Mitchell. Mike Mitchell is best suited for SS. He stuck behind SS Tyvon Branch who should be a Probowl Safety this year. S Stevie Brown coming out of nowhere who always around the football who just seems to be an overrall better player than Mitchell . Stevie Brown coverage is alot better than Mitchell. Stevie Brown just might win the starting FS job.

Last thing working against Mitchell is Raiders seem like they love both rookie Cb's Walter Mcfadden and Jeremy Ware. Raiders keep both and they can probably move last year starting CB Chris Johnson (fastest Raider) to safety Fs.

Btw Mike Mitchell will be a player in the NFl, just might not be with the Raiders.

I saw that you said that. OH well Stevie Brown was Raiders last cut, seems Al Davis and coaching staff had a diffrence of opinion. The coaching staff definitely wanted to keep Stevie Brown (who has made more plays and looks more versatile) over Mike Mitchell. Al Davis kept his guy. Third downs(passing) both Mitchell and Stevie Brown were competing for the job to be safety lined up as a LB . Stevie Brown was just flat out better in coverage. Doubtful after way he played that Raiders can sneak him on their practice squad.

it is very difficult for a 2nd round safety to crack Raiders roster - they have I am sure 4 potentail pro-bowlers at this position (same as for any other positions). i am sure now all NFL teams engage in bidding war for aldavis cuts.

Remember Mike Mitchell? He was the No. 47 overall pick in the 2009 draft, the safety from Ohio University that Mike Mayock and the rest of the nation of draftniks thought Oakland took about five rounds too early.

On Saturday, Mitchell was reportedly the subject of a behind-the-scenes battle between Raiders owner Al Davis and the team's coaching staff. We'll let you guess who won.

Let's back the story up for a minute. 2010 Seventh-round Raiders safety [URL="http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=6006"]Stevie Brown[/URL] practiced on Saturday. He spoke with the media [URL="http://www.ibabuzz.com/oaklandraiders/2010/09/04/did-brown-get-cut-to-save-mitchell/"]about making the team[/URL]. But when the Raiders [URL="http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/04/raiders-chop-several-on-path-to-53/"]officially released their cuts[/URL] Saturday afternoon, they still had one move left to make.

Here's where it gets fun.

A former Raiders employee-turned Florida radio host Andy Slater said that [URL="http://twitter.com/andyslater"]Brown was going to get the axe[/URL] on his Twitter page. This was hours before he news came out. He also reported that "everyone in the organization" except Al Davis wanted to cut Mitchell instead of Brown. Davis essentially wanted to avoid the P.R. hit and admit he made such a big mistake last year. (Maybe Davis told them Mitchell "is a great player. [URL="http://www.entertonement.com/clips/skfsrdxyfb--Get-over-itAl-Davis-Oakland-Raiders-"]Get over it[/URL].")

Jerry McDonald of the [I]Oakland Tribune[/I] breaks [URL="http://www.ibabuzz.com/oaklandraiders/2010/09/04/did-brown-get-cut-to-save-mitchell/"]down the timeline of Slater's tweets[/URL], which are fascinating. It's hard to doubt him when he nailed the news before it happened.

Apparently the coaching staff pushed hard for Brown, who also has [URL="http://www.ibabuzz.com/oaklandraiders/2010/09/04/brown-on-official-nfl-personnel-notice/"]impressed teammates[/URL]. But after the Raiders couldn't find a taker for Mitchell in a trade, they cut Brown. (Even if they didn't officially mention it on their website until very late last night.)

"Let me be clear, for those tweeting me on Mitchell/Raiders, coaches do NOT want him. Addition by subtraction," Slater wrote.

But as we know, coaches don't always get what they want. Especially in Oakland.
