Boardwalk Empire - Steve Buscemi
What do people think about the first episode? Buscemi's character is a complete paradox. He can seem humane and sensitive, a reluctant thug but more than a willing one. 7 years remorse and grieving over his dead wife, and falling for the innocent immigrant abused wife, whose husband he had killed and set to take the fall for Jimmy's ambush of Rothstein's men. Franky, his character isn't making much sense at this point. Great sets, costumes and portrayal of the early prohibition days. Not sure how I feel about this one yet but will watch with great interest, because I have always been a huge Buscemi fan. They got to get rid of the tramp he sleeps with because she is annoying as can be. "Cowboy"

I thought it was good. I'll watch the second episode. I did have trouble keeping track of who's-who with the names and the Chicago people, but that's just cuz I have attention deficit disorder at night time (ie: sleeping!).

Thought it was pretty good!
I noticed several odd editing flaws....I'm guessing they were REALLY working close to the deadline. Looks like it's gonna be a great show. Also, I watched the making of special and the set is unbelievable! |

You should check out the making of special. They spent 3 months building the set. It's incredible. |

I thought it was pretty good, for what its worth. It started out pretty slow, but the last 20 minutes or so was good stuff.

Found this lengthy but comprehensive review from the LA Times...good recap of the Pilot as well as the series in general.
Personally, I found the following sentence very interesting..it will keep me watching. Quote:

Alright, so somebody help me out with the ending to Episode 2. No, not what the girl was doing for the guy in the car. But that death-warmed-over staggering bloody guy who appeared out of the woods and got the girl hysterically screaming at the very end. Was he one of the heist "victims" who got shot some days before by Jimmy and Al Capone but survived in the woods all this time? That's my guess, but didn't quite a few days elapse?

Boardwalk Empire thread - for anyone interested
Don't get me wrong... I am enjoying this well made HBO Series. But something is not quite right with this show. I love Buscemi, but he seems oddly miscast... he's so vastly more intelligent and a lot sharper than everyone around him, except Margaret. Just compare Nucky to his dimwit brother. It doesn't add up. Margaret is fun to watch in her dealings with him and everyone else. We like her a lot. Very cute too. Some of the gangsters are interesting to watch, Rothstein, Luciano and Capone. And the Fed after Nucky is getting more interesting. Liked the tough guy act when he punched out the Celt during the raid. Worst part on the show is Jimmy. The guy that plays Jimmy sucks so badly. We hate it whenever he is on screen, he is *that* bad. And Jimmy's mother is a very strange character. What was that with trying to take the kid away from Jimmy's ex? And Luciano's hard-on for her a couple of weeks ago. Hope they develop her plot line a lot more. It has potential.

I watched the first season, and got a bit bored with it. You could see how they were building things up, but it got a little tiresome. I almost gave up on the show, but ended up giving it another chance this second season.
So glad I did. This season has been awesome. The last episode was twisted! |
