Insanely gifted players, especially one of my bass idols, Ron Carter. I had the pleasure of seeing Carter a few times. This one is a bit esoteric, but bass enthusiasts will appreciate the master's work and dexterity.

No question...he is one of the big boys on the block. Speaking of terrific Bass players and Piano players. Bill Evans trio with Scott LaFaro. LaFaro died tragically in 1961. His BASS was restored by Sam and Barry Kolstein of Kolstein music in Baldwin and is on display.

Thanks for mentioning Evans. I have lots of his music, and he definitely belongs in my triumvirate of favorite jazz keyboardists. Am I insane for thinking that Evans might be the most cerebral of the piano greats? I listen to this piece all the time:

Bill Evans is awesome no doubt, I have a few of his cd's and really dig his stuff. My 1st exposure to a REAL jazz pianist was Harold Mabern, a NYC session player who was part of a jazz workshop at SUNY Stonybrook, I attended in high school. Here is a piece I found of him. What a GREAT influence he was on me.

I went to see Jim Hall and Ron Carter at the Garte or the Vanguard in 1982-83. Just the duo; unfortunately my ears were not able to appreciate it at that time. I was into Scofield and Pastorius; I "had no ears" back then. I wish I could see them now.

That is SOOOO common. I was in Chicago a few years ago and listened to the pianist for 3 hrs (Forgot his name). He played request after request and was awesome. My friends all left (no ears) and went out but to me ..THAT was heaven. A player who played with Dizzy, Charlie Parker etc....playing at the 4 Seasons in Chicago. Was perfect.

Thanks for that video, southpark. I had not heard of him. What a talented pianist. You see the size of his hands and style of attack? I thought he'd smash that baldwin to bits. Great that you could study with such an accomplished musician.

Speaking of OUT of THIS world piano players... I could listen to this trio with Ernestine all night. I have a few drinks in me so forgive the heavy posting! I highly recommend the Oscar Petersen/Ernestine Andersen recordings on CD.

Another fantastic player. I was gonna post this earlier but thought I'd get laughed outta this thread for teh ghey. As usual with most of my jazz, I have a ton of his stuff on SACD but this is such a classic album:

I'm not a real jazz guy, like you guys anyway, but would you guys consider the piano in this song to be jazz style? David Sancious-E Street band pianist before Roy Bittan. This piano just kills me.

David Sancious is a terrific musician and fusion heads like me watched him closely; Jimi Hendrix had a concept he called "Sky Church" (think dramatic gospel and LSD in a compelling mix

)...anyway, I thought David Sancious had that; the soaring, sophisticated musicianship that brought awe and stirred the soul. David plays guitar like a fiend. I think he has an album from 1979. brb

And check out Arthur Rhames if you like multi-instrumentalists.

What a great song for a quiet Sunday afternoon before the storm of the Jets-Steelers game. Timmy, you will like this song. I'd recommend you purchase this classic album.
