Let's talk about getting a Safety

Let's assume we are going to take advantage of a deep DL class and go there at 30 and don't trade down (or up into round 2). Who are the good FS candidates for rounds 3-5?
That position scares the heck out of me right now. Poole is ok, JL is coming off a bad injury and Smith is nothing but an "in the box" safety.

If we trade down from 30 I think Moore is a legit option...If he really is viewed as a 3rd round talent than I hope they meant bottom of the 3rd/borderline 4th so he's there at 94 or w/e the Jets are.

I'm not crazy about the top half of this draft's talent at Safety. Moore is rated #1, and i hear he's nothing special, 3rd rnd grade.

Seems to me, teams'll be reaching on Safeties to address need. By the time your draft pick meets the level of talent - you're looking at 5th-7th rnd choices.

The thing with Moore is that he should be helped out by guys like Delmas and Allen...both FS prospects that I think he's better than...well maybe he's even with Delmas...who isn't as much of a ballhawk but is a better hitter/tackler. Moore's just not as mean as safeties like Chung or Ward either...Maybe he is a 3rd rounder...I mean I am speaking out of my buttocks.

im kinda feeling Cal SS Chris Conte in the rd3 area. Former CB... hard hitter... can make plays... he's like Eric Smith without the concussions.

for the jets to draft a safety early.he would have to be oustanding.this years picks at the safety position are suspect.I would put my faith in a free agent with experience.

in terms of ryan's predilection for both personnel versatility and CBs, i wouldn't be surprised to see us target a cb that translates to safety at the pro level.

there have been so many safeties at the pro level that broke in as CBs also.

smith, williams, harris and dowling
