Wilkerson's intangible pluses:

- Local kid from NJ.
- Went to college on the East Coast.
- Big frame with room to grow and get stronger.
- That same college happens to be where one of the best players in franchise history came from.
- One of the younger players in the draft at 21.

I like this pick alot. I wonder if it's enough of a boon to the D. I'd really like to walk away with a Ayers, Reed, Moore, Williams, etc. tommorrow. 94 seems very far away.

Well maybe they should watch him play against some tier 1 tackles. He's not flawless...

I was a little about Wilks over Heyward, but i trust our scouting crew. I'm totally relieved we got that 3-4 End that i think we needed in bad way..

Some mixed feelings about letting Jordan get so close. Don't really understand letting him go, but time to look forward, not backward. Carter rnd 3.

Great pick!!

Instant starter on the D-line and brings intensity and a shot of youth to the defensive front. 6'4 315 3-4 DE dont grow on tree's and the best part is that he is going to get even stronger as he gets acclimated in an NFL training program. This kid has so much potential and Rex is going to help him realize it.

I'm hoping tomorrow the Jets trade up and select a pass rusher since Bowers, Ayers, and even Reed are still available.

God if you can hear me please allow the Jets to select Akeem Ayers tomorrow, Thank you.

Not like we passed on the guy. Jordan would've taken AT LEAST a 3rd and probably more. Wilkerson didn't cost a thing. Time will tell. Wilkerson's going to take a couple of seasons to show what he's got.

and i'm saying that largely cause i was THAT in love with Jordan. He's a versatile end who can do more than just get to the QB. He's got that freakish talent to drop back like ngata does sometimes and i wanted him bad...

but time will tell. I'm more than happy we got Wilkerson over some of the other fan favorites here. It just hurt a little to see a few guys get so close and then be snatched away in the last few picks.

Fair enough, we all get our man crushes. However, I think Wilkerson will bring more pressure on QB's than Jordan, something sorely lacking from our current DL.

Sign me up for that, still some decent OLB pass rushers on the board, wouild be happy with Ayers or Reed, and somehow if we could get Carter for depth

Is a raw talent at this stage who played this past year as a defensive end in the Temple 34 front, but he still has a lot of upside to his game. Showcases inconsistent pad level when asked to sit into his stance, has the ability to keep his base low, but too often comes up with his butt too high off the ball causing him to get upright into contact. However, at times does showcase a good pad level off the ball, can extend his arms and gain leverage on contact. But typically when engaged allows himself to get upright, which takes away from his initial power when asked to anchor. Will allow defenders to get under his frame and can be driven off the line at times. But does a good job collecting himself, extending his arms and using his length to free himself and make a play on the football.

Displays average instincts and read and react ability inside and has the athletic skill set to make plays off his frame when need be. i've probably said this before but will say it again: this is a rare skillset to have... we all follow the draft every year i can't remember alot of prospects that project to both 3 tech and 5 tech. they are very different positions. 3 techs must be disruptive gap shooters. 5 techs must be strong long gap cloggers. to be able to do both is super rare. no other prospect in this draft projects like Wilkerson.

This quote from an article in Tuesday's Post got me thinking this is exactly what Rex would be looking for - The anti-Ghoulston!

Two of the coaches Wilkerson considers himself closest to -- former Temple defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio and defensive line coach Jethro Franklin, both of whom went to the University of Miami with head coach Al Golden -- referred to the same characteristics they believe will make Wilkerson a great NFL player.

"His football intelligence is off the charts," Franklin said. "You can tell this guy something one time on the football field and he gets it."

D'Onofrio said, "He understands the game at a high level. Whoever ends up drafting him will figure that out real quick, and because of that he'll be able to step in and have immediate impact."
