Ah, how quickly the libertarian loses his way. Once again, the labeling and pigeonholing are tiresome, but expected, sadly enough. I guess that sort of McCarthy tactic - call someone a communist to dismiss any and all their opinions - works for you. So you think old Joe was a good guy upholding the "American" way. Interesting.
I've done many things, but I generally do not "dismiss" you LiL. I think Communism (and it's little bothers, Socialism and Social Welfare Stateism) is the killer of personal freedom and liberty, the absolute opposite of libertarianism. All choose to have the State dominate the individuals, and the "rights" of teh many superceed personal rights almost across the board. |

Believe or not, that's your privilege. Re McCarthy et al., the question is whether a libertarian like you would support a citizen's right to dissent, even if that dissent takes the form of membership in a communist party. I would have expected you to jealously protect that right, even if you vehemently disagree with it, as this is consonant with the fundamentals of libertarianism. The right to belief should be sacrosanct in our political system, even if the belief is potential heinous. Acting on that belief to harm others or pursue treasonous activities is another kettle of fish. But if you're arguing that McCarthy was correct to crush such dissent, I'm frankly amazed. |

It is.
Re McCarthy et al., the question is whether a libertarian like you would support a citizen's right to dissent, even if that dissent takes the form of membership in a communist party.
I do support that right. However, what I do not support is any attempt to put to communism, socialism or social welfare statism into practice when and where (as I see it) it contradicts with personal liberty and freedoms, and the tenants of our Constitution.
I would have expected you to jealously protect that right, even if you vehemently disagree with it, as this is consonant with the fundamentals of libertarianism.
Again, I do support their right to self-profess as Comminists. Hell, I wish more of that type were open and honest about it, instyead of couching it in a litany of other less-unfriendly terms in order to camo thier communistic ideals. I think you may have misread what I actually wrote, as opposed to what you think I wrote. I did not support McCarty in the post. With that said, I would also like to point out that I am not a registered Libertarian either. I use the term, as it's the closest possible in our limited-terminolgy system.
But if you're arguing that McCarthy was correct to crush such dissent, I'm frankly amazed.
As you would be expected to be. Because at no time did I say that. |
It only took 3 replies to get a Nazi reference. I'm not surprised.
The Communists had ruthless street fighters in Weimar Germany, too. The document tries to de-humanize Tea Party political opponents. Calling them “Evil”, “radical leftists” who “lust for tyrannical power”. |

We seem to be in agreement. :dunno: |
It's hard to take too seriously criticism of McCarthy, from posters with long and storied histories of admiration and support for Euro-style Social Welfare Statism and frankly Communist-lite ideas and ideology.
Of course a communist would find anti-communism "bad".
Yeah, McCarthy, the same closet-gay facist cancer who accused the US Secretary of State George Marshall, the man who helped defeat the Nazis and designed the Marshall Plan which prevented the spread of communism to Western Europe, yep Joe "He was right about the commies" McCarthy was right to accuse him! And ofcourse anyone who disagrees with you or the other right-wing republicans on this site is pinko commie. |

I thought it was rather straitforward. I'll requote myself:
Of course a communist would find anti-communism "bad".
Thats not a defense of McCarthy, it's a reflection that those who promote X, would not generally support or find favor for those who are anti-X. |

Have a Wargarbly Day!:D
Go ahead. Meanwhile I'll still say Joe McCarthy was an asinine psycho who accused George Marshall and hundreds of other innocent Americans of being communists when they obviously were not. You can continue to say McCarthy was "right" and pretend to be a centrist. |

Not even sure what that means, actually. And if you re-read this thread, at no point will you see my saying "McCarthy was right" or any variation of same. I know it is sometimes hard to read with all the mouth-frothing, but please, at least try and quote the right poster when making comments.;) Last edited by Warfish; 04-28-2011 at 04:19 PM. |

Substitute all the leftist references with 'politicians' and it makes more sense.

Once again, virtually every single freaking thread in the forum is a perfect snapshot of what's wrong with political discussion/analysis in this country.
We can't even come together in analyzing the Tea-Party document that the thread OP intended to discuss. Two, maybe three posts actually discussing the actual content of the topic. Name calling, deflection, silly nit-picking he said she said back and forth. This thread: Really scary and laughable. Can't wait for the labeling and immaturity that will come as response to my comments. |
