so yeah... what a great game on sunday morning

the penalty re-take at the time seemed crazy but i don't think it was about the goalie leaving her line... i think it was about the other players behind the pk taker, crossing over the 18 yard line before the kick. it was still a borderline call but something illegal did happen. the goalie got a yellow for complaining I guess. in general the ref didn't have a great game but I've seen far worse... the real/barca champions league game for example. i have no problem with the red card, it was a two legged, sliding tackle, from behind that didn't get any ball... from 6 yards out... that's a red card in any league

Offensively, the looked horrid until the Brazilians tired out... They played better after the red.

I agree with Chastain, Foudy, etc... who say the Americans are the most conditioned in the tournament. It clearly showed yesterday.

I remember her remarking as the first ET was winding down how she feels this team, even 1 down has a chance...She referenced watching Japan, Germany the night before and feeling Germany never had a shot.

There's no way this team is as good as the '99 team that Foudy was on but it took US Soccer just that much farther yesterday morning... Hopefully, with two WC 'near miracles' it will finally peak peoples interest on what an amazing sport soccer is on a global scale...
i think it's relative.

the '99 team looked much better because the competition was weaker. there's a lot more parity in women's soccer nowadays.

Just imagine if Gus Johnson and Bill Raferty were doing this match.

I didn't need them... I'd had a few (yeah, yeah, I started early) and was doing that myself when it happened

I read an article where the writer referred to the fake injury as "pulling an Italy"

I would just like to point out that sg3 feels strongly that nobobdy cares about soccer. Just sayin'

P.S. The French team had an emotionally draining game decided on penalties so I don't think there is any real disadvantage to either team in that respect.

Ha! The hamper should have a stretcher crew to pull certain people out of threads when they're flopping around.
