What the hell is going on over there?
I want all of our players to stay far, far away from the Giants locker room at MLS. Half of their team is going to be on IR before the season starts. |
BY RALPH VACCHIANO This is becoming an epidemic. Already reeling from the loss of two cornerbacks -- Terrell Thomas and Brian Witherspoon -- to torn ACLs, the Giants got more awful news today when they lost rookie defensive tackle Marvin Austin for the season to a torn pectoral muscle. The injury occurred last night during the Giants' 41-13 win over the Chicago Bears, and Austin will require surgery. Sometimes a torn pec isn't a season-ending injury. This one, apparently, is. "Yes, I think this one is," Tom Coughlin said on a conference call with the media this afternoon. "Sometimes they can be nurtured back to some kind of significance. But in his situation, playing where he plays, and the degree of the injury -- he got caught with his arm out to the side -- evidently the doctors decided it required surgery." Austin was the Giants' second-round pick out of North Carolina, and figured to see some action as a reserve on the defensive line. He was a player with first-round talent who dropped into the Giants' laps after he was suspended for his senior season for accepting improper benefits from agents and boosters while playing for the Tar Heels. The Giants had been impressed with his quickness and strength, though at times he definitely showed the rust from his year-long layoff. Now he will spend his season on injured reserve and join a long list of players the Giants have already lost for the season, including Thomas, Witherspoon and cornerback Bruce Johnson (Achilles). The Giants will also be without DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) and CB Prince Amukamara (foot), the team's first-round pick, until probably October. It's an incredible rash of injuries that Coughlin admitted is taking its toll. "Obviously we're not in a great frame of mind today," Coughlin said. "We feel badly for these guys, and for our team."
|

I have no sympathy for the Giants whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, Jets fans have encountered decades of bad luck and now it's the Giants' turn.

That is terrible. I really liked the start of their draft this year. Thought Austin was a great pick for them in the second, and Amukamara dropping to them in the first was a steal.
Now Terrell Thomas is out for the year too? They're thin at linebacker, and needed the secondary and d-line to take pressure off that unit, but now I don't like their chances in a brutal division. Sucks, never hated the Giants, in fact, kind of root for them in the NFC. Too bad. |

+1 Exactly. Atleast their QB is still standing. We have been through the Pennington years, and even worse in '99 when we lost Vinny for the season in the first half of the first game.....in a year when we were a favorite to finally win it all. Sent from my LG-P999 |

This one is no loss for them. He was going to bust anyway but either way, he wasn't going to play

This is all Tom Coughlin's fault.

Yes, this. No one roots for injuries and obviously everyone hopes Austin and these others guys are back and healthy next year. That said, enough of this crying for the Giants. They have been one of the most blessed sports franchises for years. And no one was laughing more at the Vinny and Chad injuries than Giant fans. |

For being an old, stick to what you know kind of coach and not being able to adapt to the 4G speed and seat of your pants style of coaching his team needs because of the lockout? See a pattern here of new dogs not being able to learn old tricks? One more injury on that team and yeah it's on the head coach. See Herman Edwards career highlights for more details. |

The price you pay for selling yourself to the devil to win that game against the Pats. |

They saved me from 19-0, and for that, I will never hate the Giants the same way that I once did. Thank you Eli Manning, thank you David Tyree, thank you Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyora, and company. The Dolphins still talk about '72, can you imagine how bad the Pats fans would be?

Or maybe the good guys, out of the two teams, just won the game. F-the Pats. |
