SHARKS SIGNAL CALLER RETURNS TO JACKSONVILLE
09/30/2011 8:00 AM The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announce the return of quarterback Omar Jacobs for 2012. Jacobs (6’4, 225) rejoins the Sharks after his rookie campaign in 2011 behind Aaron Garcia. In that rookie season, Jacobs saw action in 8 regular season contests completing 18 of 24 pass attempts for over 275 yards and seven touchdowns. Jacobs' accuracy (152.6 quarterback rating) completed 75% of his passes and threw no interceptions. Also a threat on his feet, he added a rushing touchdown, as well. "We are very excited to have Omar back," proclaimed Sharks' Head Coach Les Moss. "Omar was a great addition to the team last season and was an integral part in us winning a championship. He did not get a whole lot of playing time, but when he did, he showed his abilities to be an excellent quarterback in the AFL." Jacobs' rookie season in the Arena Football League was not his first indoor action. Jacobs had several accomplished seasons at quarterback in the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA), a minor league indoor football league. In two seasons, Jacobs completed 383-of-672 passes (57%) for nearly 4,000 yards and 109 touchdowns. In 2008, Jacobs was named league Most Valuable Player and led his team to a league championship being named the championship MVP. Jacobs saw limited action as a true freshman accounting for six total touchdowns (four passing, two rushing). Jacobs’ impact surfaced as a sophomore in 2004 where he completed over 4,000 yards passing with 41 touchdowns. He finished the season as one of the nations top passers, third best in pass completions (309) and passing yards (4,002), the nations most touchdown passes and best touchdown-to-interception ration. As a junior, Jacobs was named a preseason 2nd team All-American and a preseason candidate for the Maxwell, Walter Camp and Heisman trophies. He was a semi-finalist for the Davey O’Brien award in 2005, but his productivity was reduced due to an injury to his shoulder. Jacobs opted to forego his senior season to enter the 2006 NFL draft. He left as Bowling Green State’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns (71) and third all-time in passing yards (6,938). He still holds the sixth best passer rating in NCAA history (162.5). Drafted in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacobs was released after training camp and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad where he spent the 2006 NFL season. In 2007, Jacobs signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and was allocated to NFL Europe with the Berlin Thunder. An injury forced him to miss the entire preseason and was then released. Jacobs signed with the Florence Phantoms (AIFA) in 2008 and most recently played with the San Jose Wolves (AIFA) in 2010. |

Jacksonville SHARKS ANNOUNCE 2012 SCHEDULE
SHARKS ANNOUNCE 2012 SCHEDULE
10/06/2011 5:02 PM JACKSONVILLE – Shark Nation can now mark their calendars for when their ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks will take the field next season, as the Arena Football League released its 2012 schedule on Thursday afternoon. The team begins the year with the first of two bye weeks before commencing its title defense on the road in Week 2 against the Kansas City Command on Friday, March 16. The wait for local fans will end in Week 3 as the Sharks play the first of 10 home games on Saturday, March 24 against the South Division rival Georgia Force at Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The home opener – and every other Saturday home game – begins at 7 p.m., with SharkFest slated to start three hours before kickoff at 4 p.m. All Friday home games will kick off at 8 p.m., with SharkFest beginning at 5 p.m. At SharkFest, fans are able to enjoy free seafood from Beaver Street Fisheries, the official supplier of Sea Best Seafood and ride the 35-foot Shark Slide. Fans can participate in many more fun activites - like hair coloring and Shark tattoos - and receive giveaways courtesy of Sharks corporate partners. Fans living outside the Jacksonville area will have plenty of chances to see the Sharks on television. Four of Jacksonville’s regular season games will be brodcast live on NFL Network’s Arena Football Friday. Of those four, two will be at home (Week 9 vs. New Orleans, Week 18 vs. Milwaukee) and two will be on the road (Week 12 at Orlando, Week 20 at Pittsburgh.) Winners of back-to-back South Division crowns, the Sharks will work towards a third straight division title by facing each of their divisional opponents twice in 2012, playing the Force, the New Orleans VooDoo, the Tampa Bay Storm and the rival Orlando Predators at each team’s arena. The matchups with Orlando could prove pivotal, as each meeting will take place in the second half of the season - including the Sharks’ home finale in Week 19. Other highlights of the schedule include home-and-home series with the Philadelphia Soul and the Cleveland Gladiators. In addition, both the Utah Blaze (Week 6) and the Soul (Week 15) will make their first-ever visits to Sea Best Field this season. The Sharks will benefit from a light travel schedule in 2012, as the team will not play a road game farther west than Kansas City. A rematch of ArenaBowl XXIV will have to wait until the playoffs, however, as the Sharks and Arizona Rattlers will not square off in the 2012 regular season. The Sharks will once again televise selected games on WCWJ-TV 17, with exact dates to be announced in the coming weeks. Please note that until the television schedule is finalized, dates and times of games are subject to change. Before the regular season, the Sharks plan on holding another pre-season benefit game, with an opponent to be determined at a later date. The Sharks’ 2012 regular season schedule is as follows: Week 1: Bye Week 2: @ Kansas City (Friday, March 16) Week 3: vs. Georgia (Saturday, March 24) Week 4: @ Tampa Bay (Friday, March 30) Week 5: Bye Week 6: vs. Utah (Friday, April 13) Week 7: @ Cleveland (Friday, April 20) Week 8: vs. Spokane (Saturday, April 28) Week 9: vs. New Orleans (Friday, May 4) Week 10: @ Philadelphia (Saturday, May 12) Week 11: vs. Iowa (Saturday, May 19) Week 12: @ Orlando (Friday, May 25) Week 13: vs. Tampa Bay (Saturday, June 2) Week 14: @ Georgia (Saturday, June 9) Week 15: vs. Philadelphia (Saturday, June 16) Week 16: vs. Cleveland (Saturday, June 23) Week 17: @ New Orleans (Saturday, June 30) Week 18: vs. Milwaukee (Friday, June 6) Week 19: vs. Orlando (Saturday, July 14) Week 20: @ Pittsburgh (Friday, July 20) |

SHARKS MAKE TWO ADDITIONS ON THURSDAY
10/06/2011 5:10 PM JACKSONVILLE – The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks continued to load up for next season on Thursday, adding one familiar face and one new one. The team announced that both wide receiver/linebacker Charles Hunt and offensive lineman Eddie Williams have been added to the team’s 2012 roster. A Jacksonville native, the 28-year-old Hunt (6’4, 225) was a key member of the Sharks’ defense last season, his first in the Arena Football League. Appearing in 13 games, he ranked fourth on the team in solo tackles (42), total tackles (55.5) and interceptions (four). Hunt returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown and also forced a fumble. After playing collegiately at Florida State, Hunt began his professional football career in 2009 with the Utah Saints of the American Indoor Football Association. He then spent the 2010 season with the AFIA’s Wyoming Cavalry before joining the Sharks in 2011. Williams, 22, will bring youth to the Sharks’ offensive line. After growing up in Hawai’i, Williams (6’1, 325) played two seasons at the junior college level, spending 2007 at Pasadena City College and 2008 at Mt. San Antonio Junior College in Walnut, CA. Williams then transferred to UCLA, where he started six games at right guard as a junior in 2009 before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. He returned to start all 12 of the Bruins’ games in 2010, playing every offensive snap in nine of those games. |

SHARKS ADD WRIGHT TO SHORE UP SECONDARY
10/07/2011 6:10 PM JACKSONVILLE – A busy week of additions to the ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks concluded with another transaction on Friday, as the team announced that defensive back T.J. Wright has been added to the club’s 2012 roster. The 27-year-old Wright was a three-year starter at Ohio University from 2002-06. After redshirting in 2002, Wright led all Mid-American Conference freshmen with 14 passes defended in 2003. He then notched three interceptions in both 2004 and 2005. As a senior in 2006, Wright earned first-team All-MAC honors as he recorded 59 tackles, 20 passes defended and four interceptions. One of Wright’s biggest games as a Bobcat came against Miami (OH) in 2006. In that contest, the cornerback made seven tackles, broke up two passes and forced and recovered a fumble. That performance earned him MAC East Division Player of the Week honors. After completing his collegiate career, Wright signed as a free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in April of 2007, staying with the club until his release in November. He then spent time with the United Football League’s Florida Tuskers in 2009. Wright is a native of Beaumont, Texas. |
