[B]2014 Super Bowl set for Feb. 2

ESPN.com news services

HOUSTON -- The NFL has set the date for the first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold-weather city -- Feb. 2, 2014 at the New Jersey Meadowlands.

At the owners meetings Tuesday, the league announced the early February date. Also considered was Feb. 9, 2014.

By selecting that earlier date, the NFL assured the Super Bowl would not conflict with the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

"It's historically warmer on Feb. 2," Giants owner John Mara said with a smile. He didn't mention the possibility of snow, freezing rain, blustery winds and all the accompanying elements.

In East Rutherford, N.J., where the game will be played, the average temperature in early February is 31 degrees.

Information from The Associated Press contributed to this report.

After spending last Super Bowl in a winterized city, I have no desire to see another one in the cold......and at least Dallas had a dome for the actual game.

I want to know how they are going to do all the other events that surround the game if a snowstorm blows in during the week leading up to the game. Dallas was roundly criticized for their hosting...and it really wasn't that cold or snowy.
