Money for Nothing by Dire Straights is the most sellingoutingist, nauseating pile of flaming garbage to ever roll down the rock pike and then get 1000X more airplay than it deserved.

You couldn't swing a pair of parachute pants in the late 80's without being bludgeoned over the head with this audio diarrhea.

Worst part is I still hear it once in a while to this day, and want to pierce my eardrums.

That was pretty much the point of the song......

It was to music back then what this song was for my "generation":

Hearing Sting's plaintive, strained, and semi-flat vocal only adds to this mess. Although I recognize Mark Knoffler's talent as a guitarist, I never dug him or his sound.

Everybody talk about pop musik

Talk about, pop musik

Pop pop pop pop musik

Singing in the subway

Shuffle with a shoe shine

Fix me a molotov

I'm on the headline

Wanna be a gun slinger

Don't be a rock singer

Eenie meenie mynie moe

Tell me where you wanna go

Talk about, pop musik

[QUOTE=JStokes;4377917]Exactly my point. They just never did anything for me.

But to not understand why they were/are popular seems strange to me.

I don't like any rap or headbanger stuuf--but I get why some folks do.

It's all subjective.

Like with my all-time favorite band U2. The haters--, hell I've heard folk here say they are the worst, most overrated band of all time, can't play, can't sing, can't right lyrics--totally suck all around. Notwithstanding they've sold a gagillion records and have the highest grossing concerts of all time, some people just hate everything about them and will insist they suck.

I don't like The Who, but I'd NEVER suggest they suck just because I don't like them.

+1, don't know why.
