I also so the great man at Carnegie...and many other places. He was a brilliant and uniquely gifted guitarist.

Joe P was taken from us far too early and I truly miss him.
Check out any video of Pass. You can see the gears turning in his head as to where he will direct his next attack. I don't think he's ever played a scale the same way twice. Just a joy to watch his intellect at work and translated to the fretboard.

Also, LOVE a bass duet. Carter fills the bottom incredibly on that tune.

I played in a duet with a guitar player from Berklee and loved it. Thought I'd share this...an inspiration from when we played in the early 80's. Sonny Rollins "Oleo".

WOW Joe Pass with a pick. Unfair advantage; our ears win big.

Me, too. Just mixed up, and am enjoying, some of Boynton's Jet Juice as a prelude.

For some reason, Gary Burton popped into my mind. First clip with Larry Coryell is classic.

The guy on piano shows some promise.

My Ultimate Fantasy Quintet

Piano - Thelonious Monk
Sax - John Coltrane
Drums - JoJo Mayer
Guitar - Grant Green
Bass - Charles Mingus

Basically I'd love to hear JoJo Mayer play with my favorite Jazz legends. That dude is straight nasty on the drums and I'd love to hear all those guys who were into fusion (Monk,Trane,Mingus) be held in check by the classic but delicate framework of Grant Green.

Keep in mind I'm sure I'd change this list when I was in a different mood.

I'm impressed. You could do worse than that line up.

Gotta confess, I don't know JoJo Mayer. Maybe I heard him on a Dizzy record, but don't remember the name. I will check him out. Thanks.

EDIT: For southside. Joe Henderson on tenor. This thing cooks.

JoJo Mayer is a modern day bad ass drummer. Probably the best on the planet.

I could suffer through that....

Although , while I consider Mingus possibly the most adept Bass player who ever lived, as a session man/rythem section gu, his militant attitude comes through and he clearly was a better composer/band leader than session bassist. I would take Ray Brown before Mingus.

Vic Firth....met him at a trade show. he is in the "cooking business". He makes bread rollers etc....

Fair enough. Ray Brown is also a bad ass. I wouldn't want Trane to do his free jazz sh!t though. He'd have to keep it cool. I could sub out the horn for Derek Trucks. Two guitars, totally different sounds. Would be sweet.

I studies one summer withBassist Jamil Nasser in NYC..here is Jamil playing with Ahmad Jamal.

Jamil literally explained to me that Mingus was , by FAR, the most technically proficient bass player who ever lived. Ray Brown was the most sought after. watch videos of Ray Brown...incredible.

Freddie Hubbard — trumpet
Wayne Shorter — tenor saxophone
Herbie Hancock — piano
Ron Carter — bass
Elvin Jones — drum
