So we were ruffly $7 mil under the cap before the restructuring. If the numbers play out according to some basic math we should have gained another $7 mil from the cap this year. So that's $14 mil under the cap before we do anything with Pouha, if restructuring Pouha and the emending 2012 Draft class totals about $10m we would have about $4 mil to sign a FA...

Please add some depth to this theory or explain in some detail another theory if you know different. But from here it doesn't seem like we have nearly enough to go after Williams or many other top tier FA's.

I believe that the league is going to add cap space for this season. I don't know or understand the exact details but apparently they misjudged what the amount should be and are going to add a few million across the board for every team.

Either way, I don't see us having the $16/year that williams will command. Id rather see us get some mid-tier young players in here for depth/speed and use what cap space we do have for a 2nd TE and safety (reggie smith is my choice, definitely NOT Reggie Nelson or Landry)

The carry over is why we are under the cap right now.

EagleNJ, I agree plus I'm not certain that even if we did that another team with more cap space would overpay for him, which we know we can't do.

In 2016, Sanchez is due another $1 million roster bonus on the 15th day of the league yeaar, plus a base salary of $10.75 million. Workout bonuses of $500,000 apply in each year of the deal.

The contract contains $10 million in potential escalators, based in part on Super Bowl appearances and/or victories.

Given the organization’s apparent mixed feelings about Sanchez, getting the extra money and converting all of it to a guaranteed payment was a good career move. He could have been dumped after 2012, with the $6 million due next year forever gone.

Still, it likely wasn’t an accident that the news of this one came late on a Friday night. It’s hardly a big-money, long-term commitment.

Good write up on the deal. This should make both Sanchez supporters and detractors happy about this deal. $6.4M off of the 2012 cap and the Jets are only on the hook for an extra $2.75M extra over the next 2 years.

I think we are now roughly $13M under the cap after this and D'Brick's restructuring.

Pouha and the draft class will not take up $10 million.

So that puts the Jets with about 13-14 mil in cap room.Hopefully Tanny can do some more cap magic to get that number close to 20 mil

I think that eliminates the Jets from Williams,but should be able to resign Pouha,Get wr (Braylon) and look for ol and safety help.Then at 16 in the draft they can look to help the pass rush.

The good thing is going into 2012 The Jets will have zero expectations.Except for 2010 they seem to do better with less expectations.

Anyone else that is a must resign that i'm missing?

The more I find out about this deal the more I am OK with it. In a perfect world he wouldn't be guaranteed anything for 2013 but if you want to get something you have to give something up. This deal allows the Jets to sign their draft picks and add some depth. Basically keeps the doors open for 2012.

Why would the FO do that?.. they would still have to pay him the $8.25mil guaranteed to him for 2013...
