If you trade a player, doesn't the new team take on the contract? I don't understand why all the guaranteed money would have to be paid by the Jets if he were to be traded. Couldn't they new team take over the payments?

Which team actually writes the check is inconsequential.

The Jets guaranteed the money, so it would hit their salary cap immediately if he was to be traded.
