The good thing is that there are good eras in just about every decade that people are fond of.
For the old buggers you can add a few Tull and Moody Blues albumns to the 68 to 72 era. |
Dude, I'm about to go Jets Things for you in this thread. I had no idea.
Siamese Dream is my favorite album of all time and aside from my Lollapalooza 2 (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc.) stub my keepsake is a ticket stub from the November 9, 1993 show when I was about 20 yards from Kurt Cobain during the In Utero tour (yup, 5 months later....dead). i would givee anything to have my college years of 1992-1996 and that music back! Sprinkle AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, PJ and Pumpkins with some Temple of the Dog, Chili Peppers, Weezer, Breeders, Garbage, Hole, and others.. I'd stay up for a 24 hour playlist. That's it, tailgate....beer time....pick the game. You'll sit next to me in 246. Bring Betsy! We'll rock out to 90's alt music and the Jets will win! (By the way, I'm loaded right now) :D
I'm there!! You know...I think a lot of what made those 5 years great was that it direcly preceded the "digital" age of music. It was the last times where you actually listened to the radio to hear good music. Headbangers Ball was still on MTV...and MTV actually played music. So much talent back then. But...Generation X still continues to live in the shadow of our preceding generation and their never-ending thirst for self-indulgence and self-affirmation and followed by Generation Y and their equally enormous thirst for self-indulgence and self-affirmation that is magnified by the internet. I remember growing up and watching 20 year specials on the the Boomers music and the constant reacharound for the Beatles and the Stones and Floyd and Zepplin. Don't get me wrong...I love all of those bands. But for God's sake, give up the ghost. People in our generation will never get a chance for nostalgia that was afforded our parents and our kids. It's just not in our cards. |
Of freaking Nevermind.
Lock the damn thread. Gonna be flooded with old people.
I was in High School in the early 90's. It's my age-specific wheelhouse. And it was a decent era, makes up a chunk of my own collection. But sorry dude, best era ever? It's just not even close.
Just die already baby boomers
You're a VERY angry young man lately PK. You ok? |
To each his own.
Wasn't around back then....:D
I loved when those tunes you posted broke. "Headbangers Ball" was my Friday night salvation; with my wife and rugrats sleeping on the big bed I would pound a couple and just dig the new heavy sounds. Not a drop of that LA hair metal....Beck was excellent as well; the new sound was raw and heavy. A great era.  |
No doubt a great 5 years. But best of all time? Hardly.
Sgt Pepper 68 Let It Bleed 69 Abbey Road 69 Yellow Submarine 69 Let it Be 70 Sticky Fingers 71 Exile on Main Street 72 And that's just Beatles and Stones. Not even touching a couple dozen other classics
Damn. Just opened this thread and you nailed it. Add the Who, Guess Who, CCR, Bolod Sweat and Tears, early Chicago, early Eagles. Tons of Motown. Music is always better during a time of war. Artists are more creative. |
Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by the Pumpkins perfectly bookended the 5 year period after Nevermind.
Can't forget The Offspring in the mix either. The Beatles were a glorified boy band. D'oh! :D Sent from my Double-Wide using Semaphore...
The Offspring? How drunk were you when you posted this one? |

Saw AIC open for Van Halen in 91? I was one of the few who knew what was happening, they were touring for facelift, the crowd gave them a bronx cheer!! We bailed halfway through Van HAgars set.

Back in the day, we had Kirshner & The Midnight Special for video, and magazines. That was it. Nostalgia comes from stories, myths and past experiences. You guys now get your nostalgia from MTV, YouTube, etc. Big diff, IMO. |
