I think his point is that he capitalized and profited off his own tragedy.
Silly observation -- we all handle grief in our own ways and it's obviously a touching tribute.
Yeah, I'd give Clapton a pass on this one, most of us try to capitalize. |
Clapton did not write the lyrics but he did deposit the checks
He wrote everything except "time can break your heart time can bend your knees," and to his credit, he stopped performing this song once the meaning behind it left him. Way to trounce on something for no reason than to be controversial. The man lost his son....the song is beautiful. |

Although I have no connection to the Celtic identity or culture, ever since the first time I heard this many years ago, it still gets to me. It's not about a finite loss like Clapton's song about his son, but it is still haunting in a hopeless way.

Some good ones thus fra, Jhonny Cash's Hurt is stunningly sad IMO, Tears in Heaven as well. Both great choices.
For me, personally, the saddest song is amazing grace played by a lone piper. I cannot get through that without tearing up badly tbqh, although I'll admit much of that is personal. Youtube seems loopy today, or I'd link a good version. Last edited by Warfish; 06-16-2012 at 03:57 PM. |

the opening piano of Al Stewart's Year of the Cat and the entire opening theme from Taxi really depress the s*** out of me for some reason.

Gives me the same feeling as having no money when the ice cream truck came on the block as a kid.

This one is the worst for me. I lost my father to aids didnt know it at the time. I was fifteen and he just dissapearred for two years while the court placed me in a group home. When I was almost 18 they let me go early so I could care for him till he passed. He was 300 when I last saw him 98 pounds when I was reunited with him.
Sometime after the funeral I saw a movie with a chick with Matthew modine and the Aids epidemic during the Regan years old movie. Well they play this song at the end. I couldnt even breathe to try to keep myself from losing it. I still walk out of places when I hear it fast. [IMG] |
I know how this feels Ragu. My dad was about 225 pounds most of his life. By the time Parkinson's ravaged his body he was about 125-130. Doctors told him that he was going to have to be fed through a tube since he lost the ability to chew. He died of a heart attack later that night. Last edited by Timmy®; 06-16-2012 at 08:29 PM. |
