[B]A South Korean woman experienced ‘severe pain’ after the partially cooked squid she was eating inseminated her mouth. [/B]




A South Korean woman got quite a mouthful when a semi-cooked squid she was eating reportedly inseminated her mouth.
The 63-year-old suffered "severe pain" and a "prickling, foreign-body sensation" in her mouth after taking a bite of the partially-cooked seafood, according to [URL="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21834723"]a study published in February in the Journal of Parasitology[/URL].
The unidentified woman spit the squid out immediately, according to the report, but not before the cephalopod injected its sperm bags into the mucous membranes of her tongue and cheek.
She went to the hospital, where doctors apparently found a dozen "small, white spindle-shaped bug-like organisms" which they believed to be parasites in the woman's mouth.
Researchers later determined that the organism were sperm bags — not parasites.
They believe that the bags were discharged as the woman chewed.
The bags are ejaculatory apparatuses that slowly release sperm when attached to a female’s body, [URL="http://www.stuff.co.nz/science/7109066/Squid-sperm-inseminate-diners-mouth?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter"]according to Fairfax New Zealand News[/URL].
This isn’t the first reported case of a squid trying to inseminate a human mouth. Several people in Japan have complained of oral stings after chowing down on the seafood, the news site reports.
Dana Staaf [URL="http://www.science20.com/squid_day/squid_your_plate_could_inseminate_your_mouth-91085"]of the blog “Squid A Day”[/URL] said that most calamari lovers have no reason to freak out.
Most Western squid preperation removes the internal organs of the cephalopod or boils the seafood long enough to kill the sperm bags.

Not to go GMC on you but a buddy of mine used to work for a very classy hotel in japan, and they’d opened a restaurant in the hotel with a top notch chef.

One night they wanted to celebrate so they ask the concierge for “something different”. He sends them to a Japanese restaurant telling them to ask for a particular dish. Everyone practically barfed except for the chef who found it interesting. It was only afterwards that they learned it was laced with squid sperm.

Concierge was almost fired :D
