Would have been 3rd and 24. Hold 'em to 23 yards on two plays, take 3 knees and punt. :(
I know I have relived this a million times. I remember a guy in my section bought a bunch of Jet fans beers (must of been about 15 of us) and left to catch a flight back home with 4 minutes left thinking we won. This was not a fun trip home. |

I guess it's true, Jets fans really do love to be tortured.
For those of us who weren't around for this, how does this compare to the Doug Brien game?
I was only 13 watching the Browns game. I can still remember the tv announcer saying with 4:03 and the Jets up by 10 points the Jets are headed to AFC Chamopinhsip game. The Jets had the lead and just gave it back. In the Steeler game the Jets never had the lead, we came back from 10 down and had the chance to take the lead twice on the FGs. Both games were bad losses, but I don't think we would have beaten Denver the following week, just as I feel we would have never beaten New England after the Doug Brien game. |
For me, it still ranks as the worst loss in Jets history. Still hurts to think about it. Only compounded by the fact that the Giants went on to Super Bowl glory a few weeks later.
Plus, earlier that season, the Jets dismantled Denver easily, who would have been the opponent in the AFCCG. |

Why would anyone want to relive that pain? Trust me I have watched many a Jet loss in my day. That one was far and away the worst.

I smoked a lot of weed in 1986, so that game didn't really bother me that much.

True, but the Jets early in the 86 season played much better then the Jets in the second half. 10-1 45-3 loss to the Phins on Monday night Lost every regular season game after that. I was only 12, but I remember O'Brien being benched for the KC wild card game and Ryan going off... just to see Walton go back to Kenny in Cleveland. Anyone remember why? |

after the way the regular season ended - there was really no way the Jets were going to the SB - even if the defeated the Browns, they would've lost to Elway.
Ditto, the worse loss up until the Steeler Championship game 2 years ago. The Browns game still hurts to watch. Man, that was bad. The Jets being the Jets. Joe pick my nose Walton sucked
Gastineau was a counterproductive wanker. The worst thing was he was so talented, one of the finest passrusher - but his out of control ego (steroid fueled) ruined everything :steamin: |

And Ryans going off was to the tune of 16-23-153 yds. Not really going off. |

Which is why we blame him for a game that was a complete team meltdown along with a HUGE coaching blunder that goes unblamed. |
