Just watched an episode of Pawn Stars a couple nights ago and a guy was selling one of his seriagraphs.
Prompted me to look up Neiman as I hadn't heard about him in quite some time. And was shocked to realize he was 91. I had no idea he was that old. He was in a league by himself. His work is and will always be legendary. RIP. |

Love his work & met him a few times at his showings all around the SoHo art gallery row (Prince St & Mulberry St area, NYC). What a loss to the art world, but his paintings will live on.
RIP LeRoy. :rip: |

You should see it now, all high end store front galleries with huge loft apartments on top. It's beyond trendy & the reason why the neighborhood snubs want to do away with the annual Feast of SanGennaro. :( |

:(
That would be a travesty. But I don't think that's a "culture" you want to mess with in New York, if you know what I mean. |

RIP,
That is a LeRoy Neiman poster in my avatar, honors the game I love and one of the many lost on 9/11. might as well tell the story again, I got a copy of that poster on a recruiting trip to Cornell in 1978, Cornell had just won the DI Lacrosse National Championship, and their star player Eamon McEneaney (one of the all-time greats, but to me at the time just a college lax player lol) signed a copy of it for me. The poster is based on the championship game with Hopkins, and I had it hanging in my house for years until ruined in a flood. McEneaney was lost on 9/11, a great person and a legendary player. I only met him once back in 2000 and had a great conversation with him about the Jets. He had a studio in the Columbia U. area and, on a few occasions, went to the bar my friends and I had just opened up in that neighborhood. I only saw him that one time I chatted with him.
He kindly personalized his Fx McRory's Whiskey Bar print for us as a kind gesture. Great guy, incredible artist, keen eye for depicting moments that captured the hearts of everyday people/sports fans as well as the monkeys at the art gallery. may he R.I.P. |

;)
Ah, the feast I can remember going to that before and after 1971 with my parents, aunt, uncle and cousin. Just like Godfather 3, good times it isn't like it used to be. |

Tell me about it. Every year my cousins swear it's our last season setting up the stands until some liberal hipster comes along looking to start a petition to shut the feast down. Then all of a sudden it's "Hell No We Won't Go" & pay through the nose for the permits along with a decent donation to the church. ;) |

Yes indeed & FWIW LeRoy used to come down to the feast every year and partake in the church basement's casino nights. I have a couple of his litho's of blackjack & roulette tables. My favorites are Frank Sinatra, Joe Namath and Sly Stallone as Rocky. |
