3rd way tie breaker. Jets haven't won an outright AFCE championship since 1998. ;) |

Apparently winning the division on a tiebreaker doesn't count, but losing in the Superbowl to the same team twice is cool. |

Shouldn't you be on your way to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame? What else is there to do? |
ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss suggests that the Patriots might use their second preseason game to showcase Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer for potential trade interest.
Mallett and Hoyer were likely to take the majority of the second preseason game snaps anyway, but this particular game will be nationally televised on ESPN against the Eagles. ESPN Boston is the latest New England outlet to hint that the Pats might be willing to deal Mallett or Hoyer. The Boston Herald has also alluded to it. The Pats' second preseason game will be played in August 20. Source: ESPN Boston
Looks like the rumors of getting rid of Hoyer aren't completely false. |

I think it all comes down to how much faith the Pats have in Mallett. From the OTA's and mini-camp, the reports were that Mallet struggled a bit. |
Kind of old news. As others mentioned, it's pretty hard to see where Hoyer's trade value comes from without anything other than garbage time experience under his belt. I see the most likely scenario being Hoyer remains the backup this season and then signs on next year with a team where he can compete in camp for a starting job.
As for Mallett... anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's. He's still extremely raw, and wasn't even dressed for the majority of games last season. Is he really content to sit for 4-5 total years? I don't know... but this isn't comparable to the Rodgers situation at all. Rodgers was definitely Favre's heir apparent, and only remained on the bench as long as he did because Favre reneged on his retirement timetable and threw a wrench into the Packers' plans. I'd say there's a solid chance Brady's successor will come from somewhere else.
Yeah, Hoyer's a JAG we don't need. Brady needs a more competent backup. Pats rely on Brady too much. |
