Source: Jason Kidd, Knicks agree
In an unforeseen reversal, Jason Kidd has decided to leave the Dallas Mavericks to join the New York Knicks, according to sources familiar with the decision.
With the Mavericks confident that they were closing in Thursday on a verbal agreement on a three-year deal with Kidd worth $9 million, sources told ESPN.com that Kidd -- after all-day deliberations with both teams -- has decided instead to leave Dallas to join the Knicks for a similar deal. The contract can't actually be signed until July 11, which is the first day new NBA contracts can be signed. It's also possible, one source said, that Kidd could ultimately move to the Knicks in a sign-and-trade deal. Sources briefed on the matter told ESPN.com that Kidd was ultimately swayed to take the Knicks' offer to come to New York and take on the challenge of trying to help the Knicks move into the Eastern Conference and also mentor fans darling' Jeremy Lin. |

Not a real shocker he is a Jersey native and is mad at the NETS for leaving NJ. Ending his career in the tristate area was expected.

Kidd was born in San Francisco, California and raised in an upper middle class section of Oakland, California. His father Steve was African-American, and his mother Anne is Irish-American. The oldest of 6 children, Kidd attended St. Paschal Baylon school in the Oakland Hills. As a youth, Kidd was highly scouted for AAU teams and tourneys, garnering various all-star and MVP awards. He frequented the city courts of Oakland, where he often found himself pitted against future NBA All-Star Gary Payton. The two still reminisce about the playing days of their youth. During his youth, Kidd also excelled at soccer, baseball as well as other sports. he graduated from California; it was seen as a risky move to not go to an Eastern college Last edited by WestCoastOffensive; 07-05-2012 at 05:38 PM. |

He's a good addition to the team and better than the backups they had last year. It's easy to see how he helps the Knicks. |

Jason Kidd is awful. This is hilarious. The guy is totally washed up. I love a good train wreck.

but as the backup/mentor to Lin, this is a huge get for the Knicks. he also brings a true veteran leader into the locker room, something the Knicks haven't had in years. |

LOL at people thinking hes awful, hes so awful that the Mavs wanted him back. He was a big piece to the Mavs beating the Heat, he knows how to get it done. Hes not the player he used to be, but he can still play and is a good mentor for Lin.
I wish they could get him on a sign and trade so they can use the MLE to add someone like Marcus Camby. Hope that JR Smith comes back, they are definitely matching the offer for Lin and will bring back Novak. |

The guy can still run the floor and distribute. Plays D and goes after rebounds. At his position physical tools are not as important. If only my Nets had addressed their needs at C, this guy would have at least 2 more rings.

Just what we needed: A 39 year old wife beater. Bring back Lin and this move makes sense. Kidd would be a nice BACK-UP. Match the deal with Houston or else Toney Douglas will see the floor quite a lot this year.

+1 Kidd is better than any of the guards on the Knicks roster, he can pass and hit threes.

The Knicks will match Lin's offer sheet for sure.
I'm going to stay Kidd still starts. Lin will come in with the energy unit. Lin will still play way more minutes but I'd start Kidd since hes still good at setting the tone and getting everyone invloved. |
