The First Tune You Spent Coin to Get?
Just curious. Bought the 45 of this at the five and dime. Records suggest I was 11 and the year was 1974.

My first albums were purchased after I joined the Columbia Record Club, probably around '73 or '74, shortly after I got my Quadraphonic Stereo as a birthday present. The awesomeness of those four tiny speakers with the Garrad turntable spinning away lol...anyway the Columbia Record Club got you like 10 or 12 albums for a buck, and then you just never bought another one because you were a minor
I think my initial purchase included classics like Quadraphenia, Bachman Turner Overdrive, A Passion Play, Bad Co., and others

Prolly one of those infamous K-Tel compilation records: you got a bunch of hits all on one record, WAY before iTunes let you buy singles. Delivered to your door by express dinosaur.

My older brother used to lock himself in his room, smoke weed and BLAST this song over and over to drive my parents insane.

First two albums ever, Let it Be and The Who's Tommy. Got them for my birthday. First album I bought for myself, CSN&Y Four Way Street.
I later bought all three on 8 track. Then cassette. Then CD. And now MP3s. |

One side was The Jimi Hendrix Experience with the live recording of "Like a Rolling Stone" from the Monterey Pop Festival and the other side was Otis Redding Sitting By the Dock of the Bay. Still one of my favorite Hendrix songs via Dylan. _ |

Bought this at age 10 or 11, followed in short order by such "new" albums as Freeze Frame by J. Geils and For Those About to Rock by AC/DC.

In 5th grade the first album I bought was Nirvana: Unplugged in New York. I followed that up with the one that was all the rage back then -- Green Day's Dookie. |

Edit -- the version I had had Otis Redding also live at Monterey on the flip side, though I had Dock of the Bay as well as a separate album. Last edited by AFCEastFan; 07-10-2012 at 11:16 AM. |
