Citizen checkpoints

Saw this video and I'm wondering a few things. I know this guy set this up and I hate the Nazi Germany reference but it raises some questions.

Not a poll but would you pick one of these thoughts?

1. We should suffer this inconvenience if it means we can catch illegal immigrants. We have to sacrifice abit if we want to solve this problem.

2. No, this is another erosion of our rights, we have to be able to move about in complete freedom. There are other, better ways to find illegal immigrants that don't impeded us. This is an inconvenient waste of time.

3. Shut up FF2®, you're not even asking the right questions.

I already do, in a way. In VA, the Police often put up "all-stop" checkpoints, often in the poor'er neighborhoods, and stop every person going in or out.

The purpose, of course, is revenue. Seeking out of date plates, inspection, broken lights, etc. And DUI of course. They stop everyone, ticket all offenders. It's described as a "Safety Program", but it's a pretty obvious revenue push.

No ID's are checked though, without a cause (i.e. a ticket to be written).

As others have pointed our regarding Socialism in America, we already have some of this in place already. A check is not a limit on movement unless you have a reason to not want to be checked, i.e. you're in breach of a Law and would get caught. Law abiding people can get checked, then move on. Freedom retained.....for now. Depending on frequency, and how deep the check and what new laws are created to bust us for things, it could easily become a restriction.

The question, as is often the case, is one of degrees. How much checking, how often, how detailed, etc.

There are no wrong questions, and this is a legitimate issue to discuss. Just IMO.

Its interesting because all we ever have her are sobriety checkpoints, which I think are silly....they should just park 500 yards down the road from bars...or is that profiling?

You use the term "degrees." Can't this be construed as just another erosion, or chipping away" at rights?

Yes, thats profiling. But it would only be the kind that causes protest if it involves a minority group bar or neighborhood.

I'm all for it, for the record. Bars and Drunks go hand in hand, and I prefer targeted enforcement based on logic and stats.

It could.

Just like Obamacare could.

As said, we'll all have differing ideas on to what degree we're willing to accept.
