Jets touched base with Cedric Benson

Interdasting.

Quote:
Free agent Cedric Benson revealed Tuesday that the Packers have joined the Raiders in "checking" on his status this summer.

Benson also indicated the Jets touched base "way earlier" in the summer. Out of touch with his market value entering his age-29 season, Benson "made it pretty clear" to SiriusXM radio's Adam Schein that he's holding out for more than the veteran minimum salary. Unless the Seahawks get desperate in the wake of Marshawn Lynch's DUI arrest, he's not going to get his wish. The Packers' interest is proof that the team hasn't closed the door on a veteran backfield addition.

I can't see the Jets interest in Cedric Benson. He offers them nothing different than what they have at RB. Cedric Benson makes Shonn Greene as a pass catcher look like the second coming of darren sproles. Not to mention he has fumbled more than any Rb the last two years.

Raiders I could see the interest . Brings something different to their Rb committee. (short yardage)

I would pass.

The Bengals have a pretty good OL and Benson averaged less than 4 yards per carry.

He's not a good receiver out of the backfield either.

I don't see the benefit at this point.

I would have rather had Addai.

Theoretically he could contribute but he's very similar in style to Shonn Greene so I'd be surprised if we added him.

We need a 3rd down back.

Benson would become a perfect back in regards to keeping Darren McFadden healthy. He's a work horse.

Jets need to touch base with Jim Leonhard.

As for Benson, I wouldn't go much higher than the minimum. But I do think he is better than Greene.

Heres how the exchange went.

Tanny dials the phone:

"Hey Cedric. Mike Tannenbaum here. I wanted to touch base. Do you still suck as a professional running back?

Benson:"Yes, didnt you watch tape from last year. Im awful."

Click.

Much better than Greene???

LOL they are the same exact player, except that Greene isn't a total jackass.

This blurb clearly shows the Jets don't have any real interest in Benson, which is wise of them.

Do you have the part where he laughs at Bart Scott as he gains 167 yards in a playoff game?

No, but I have the part where I laugh at him as in the last 2 years he has averaged 3.5 and 3.9 yards a carry.

The guy is awful. There is a reason he is without a job.

yes he's awful enough to interest tanny, who did not wait to "touch base". He's not some pencil mark you can erase; he's a real person with real feelings behind a real face mask.

Another back that only gets what the line serves up for him.

Tebow can do everything Leonhard can, and more.

Jets need a young RB, not these old guys.
