Definitely worth exploring. Trust me, he's one of the horn masters.

Freddie played the horn solo on Zanzibar, from 52nd Street, Billy Joel. One of my favoriter trumpet players.

EDIT: Forgot to include the line up. What a friggin' band.

Freddie Hubbard — trumpet
Wayne Shorter — tenor saxophone
Herbie Hancock — piano
Ron Carter — bass
Elvin Jones — drum
I was listening to that all day yesterday driving around.

Just listening to this classic. Really gets swingin'..."One more once".

I'm not a big band kind of guy, I prefer the haunting melodies of Monk.

BTW, I've seriously missed your contributions in this thread. You have a great jazz knowledge. You're pretty much, like, my Gatsby.

LOL. Stop it.

Great version. Thanks for posting it. (I just think that Basie version is such a timepiece.)

Basie is definitely a classic. Sh!t, the guy is so influential and revered that they name a musical progression for ending a song after him. Playing out, improv, open mic style... every now and then someone tells you right as the song is about over, "Hey, we're gonna do a Basie ending."

Beautiful interpretation of one of Duke Ellington's incredible suites. Seems perfect for this rainy day.

Last Ellington cut led me to the great Paul Gonsalves.

Very smooth in his fingerings. (Bodes well for the wife. )

Of course, I know Joe Henderson's work. But had never heard of Steve Erquiaga. Thanks for posting the video.

Are either of you familiar with jazz guitarist Chuck Wayne?

The guitar player in my band in college (jazz player) studied from him for a summer.

I'm very familiar with the late Chuck Wayne. One of my former teachers sat in with him on many occasions.

I don't quite fully understand it, but Wayne developed a different approach to guitar playing using open voicings and unique (some might argue bizarre) chord shapes. It's worth a read online.

I heard his "When Sunny Gets Blue"; he really "prettied" that up.
