Could Jim Leonhard Return To Baltimore?

Former Baltimore Ravens’ safety Jim Leonhard joined Rex Ryan the New York Jets in 2008. This past season, Leonhard after tore the patellar tendon in his knee and required major, season-ending knee surgery. Now, the Jets have announced that they will not re-sign Leonhard after three seasons in New York.
Although the Ravens currently have some good decent depth at safety, would it be ridiculous for them to consider signing Jim Leonhard? Though not a necessity at the moment, Jim Leonhard could be a solid pickup for the Ravens. While his knee injury is a cause for concern, Leonhard has showed over the past few seasons that he is a reliable and consistent player that can help a team’s secondary. I could see Leonhard play a significant role with the Ravens as a backup and on special teams. He has experience with the Ravens as he started 13 games in 2008, and could probably be acquired for fairly cheap.

Well, the Ravens don't play the Jets, but they do play the Giants, the Patriots, the Broncos, and the Steelers twice. Wouldn't mind seeing Leonhard make an INT or 2 in any of those games.

Free-agent safety Jim Leonhard, a Rex Ryan favorite who galvanized the New York Jets' secondary for three seasons, won't be back with the team.

We might actually have Safeties this season who are capable of covering people effectively once in a while.

i like Leonhard for his hustle, heart, and leadership. but let's not forget that he was below average, at best, last year. he's not the player he was in 2009 and 2010 before the injuries, and i don't think he'll be any better after a busted knee.
Below average? You're being way too kind. Jim Leonhard couldn't cover Doug Jolley wearing cement shoes. I will never get the whole "he has heart" bs. Wayne Chrebet had heart and he was actually good. Jimmy Leonhard was garbage.

Eric Smith needs to go too. I'm tired of watching that clown get burnt every Sunday.

Free agent safety Jim Leonhard may finally be close to finding a new team. Which was also his first team.

Leonhard attended practice at the Bills’ training camp today, and Bills G.M. Buddy Nix said Leonhard could be the right fit for a position where the team still needs to add depth.

“We’re still looking for a fourth safety,” Nix told Buffalobills.com.

Leonhard, who suffered a season-ending tear to his patellar tendon in Week 14 of last season, was wearing a compression sleeve on his right leg as he watched the Bills’ practice. But Leonhard says his knee is healthy and he’s ready to go.

The Bills signed Leonhard as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin in 2005, and he played three years in Buffalo before leaving for the Ravens as a free agent. After one season in Baltimore, he has played the last three years with the Jets.

As others have said, he was not the same player from his previous two seasons. That probably worried the Jets as much as his last injury. He was a solid player you could rely on..

Best of luck to him. I always liked Leonhard.

Lets hope his replacements don't suck (or get hurt).
