I blame your increased posting in the Pil-Sci forum for this dilemma.

And, I get the outrage. 100%.

Too many visits to crypto-viral liberal sites that pledge to stick it to the Man but make everyone suffer

Malwarebytes-git it and go from there

Already had it. Doesn't touch it. Nor does anything else in my somwhat decent quiver of installed solution items (Ad-Aware, Symantec, kapersky, etc).

Seems a bit of offline time and a trip to a pro is forthcoming.

C'mon man. TDSSKiller. Virus may be attached to your CD/DVD driver.

Try to find it in your processes. You might be able to remove it manually. Use the google machine.

A lot of the Trojans disable the task manager.

LOL. On a different machine or your phone. Or if you have a different web browser. Sometimes it will only infect the web browser you downloaded it with.

You're right but he might get lucky and save some money. But since Malwarebytes and TDSSKiller didn't work it might be a bad one.

It is a definite possibility that he got it from one of those political websites. Or he was downloading porn. LOL.

Usually when you get a vissrus yiu work at it obsessively for a week before finally just reformatting the drive and re-installing the OS. I assume you don't have an uninfected Windows checkpoint you can roll back to?

Depends on when he last updated Malwarebytes. It comes with a ghost program that has its .exe file with a random name to get around the Trojan.

It was pron. pol websites aren't Trojan factories.

Fish, boot in Safe mode, have Malwarebytes on a USB drive, rename the exe file, run it.....then go to MS ONE live care and run a system scan.

Should be good....

You're better off booting to safe mode, backup your data, and restore to factory default. Then run windows update for all your service packs and security updates.

I see.

This is why I avoid clicking on the links in the poli-sci forum. Some of the websites he posts I have never heard of before.

If you're able to post here, I assume you have an alternate, working browser. Google your issue an it'll give you a solution.

I've gotten that Trojan twice, and fixed it in under an hour both times. Key is to reboot in safe, rename malwarebytes, and get rootkiller (I think that's the name).

I'm not posting from my computer so unfortunately I don't have the solutions handy. But a quick google search should do the trick.
