KRL Camp Notes (7/29/12)

General Notes

- Players in full pads

- Practice ran 2 hours and 40 minutes

- Kerley, Davis, Otah, White & Campbell working to the side with trainers.
This is totally my opinion but from watching Otah move I'll be shocked if he
doesn't pass his physical. He has no limp, wrap or brace on his knee and he
was doing his conditioning run with no problem. But I'm no doctor

- Landry was dressed but was held out of practice today

- Coach Dunbar was cross-teaching the LB's on how to improve their pass
rush moves

- Coach DeGuglielmo (OLine) went "old school" today making the OLine push
him on the blocking sled 40 yards downfield during warmups

- To keep the offense moving at a fast tempo I noticed Sparano has them on
a 25 second clock instead of a 40 second one

- Something new that I've noticed the defense is now running more
"coordinated coverage" drills. Instead of the LB's and DB's working on
coverage by themselves now everyone (DL, LB & DB) works on pass
coverage as a unit

- Westhoff was installing his fake punt package with Tebow today (draws,
jump passes)

- A lot of mixing and matching in the personnel groupings today. Also a lot
of reps for the #2's and #3's

- One four man nickel look had Maybin, Wilkerson, Coples & Pace on the front
line

Player Notes

- Maybin had a great day today. Constantly in the backfield for "sacks" or
"tackles for loss"

- The two drafted safeties (Bush & Allen) flashed today. Bush showed good
range covering from the middle of the field to the sideline. And Allen
showed good anticipation with two INT's

- Cromartie and Wilson had a good days in coverage

- Sapp flashed today with a "pressure" and "tackle for loss" he also showed
excellent closing speed tackling Powell on the sideline

- I saw why Rex mentioned Schlauderaff yesterday. As a center he's
showing an excellent ability to "stone" defenders and even when he gets
beaten he's able to redirect and maintain his block

- Kroul was impressive in 1 on 1 drills against the DLine

- Wilkerson, Coples and Ellis were impressive in 1 on 1 drills against the
OLine

- You saw the inconsistency of Hunter today. In one rep against Pace he
ducks his head and Pace flys by him. Then DeGuglielmo makes him take his
rep again and you see his talent when he stones Pace

- The star RB today was Powell. A 40 yard off tackle "TD" run and he also
showed the willingness to run between the tackles

- McKnight also showed toughness staying between the tackles and running
hard

- Ray Webber a WR also flashed today he had a nice one handed TD grab
(30 yds) from McElroy

Thanks for the info. Look forward to your reports.

I know its early, but in your opinion, how is the Slauson/Ducasse battle going? Anything noteworthy?

A couple of answers:

- Dowtin must have pulled something because he was fully dressed then
he was working with the trainers

- The Slauson / Ducasse battle is even in my opinion

KRL, as other have said thanks for the updates.

Do you feel that Ducasse has made huge improvements or Slauson has regressed?

That's actually good news on Vlad. So no "lost" looks on him?

As always thanks for the observations.

DeGuglielmo is riding Ducasse hard, you always hear him calling his name.
May be he just needed more of a drill master coach instead of a cerebral
one like Callahan.

From the first couple of practices I believe our offense will have three main
components

1. Power running
2. Screen passes
3. Vertical routes

There will be no more 4 yard slants and hope the WR can break it for a
first down

Was this Ellis' first day of practice since his release?

Thanks for the great work KRL!

Thanks buddy. If maybin stays healthy, hes gonna be a 12 plus sack guy. His speed off the snap is amazing.

Here's hoping that GS3 under center, and Coples on the edge works out.

I'm pretty sure both will be on the 53 man roster. Bush is our only true free safety, and Allen is a steal at SS. Bell isn't going to be here long term.

So Ducasse/Slauson being even does that mean that Ducasse is showing improvements?

KRL is the PRE-SEASON superstar!!!

But screen passes? We havent called or executed screen passes in 10 years!
Same with Draw Plays...are you SURE you saw these?
