Sure do miss him. It will be 20 years next April 1st, since my first GD show. If it weren't for the Dead, I would probably never opened myself to different types of music, like Country, Blues, Bluegrass, & Jambands.

Though these days, Im more into the metal scene then ever, and I look back at my GD trip as one of the best times of my life.

Kids today are f'd. Aside from maybe Derek Trucks, who else is out there?

No one loves the Floyd/Dead Era of the late 60's, and 70's, more than me.

But I reject the "kids today suck at music" ideal.

There is an AMAZING assortment of music available, more than at any time ever before. Talent and vision and art as good as any other era.

The trick today, is you just have to work a bit harder to find it. Instad of the greatest being teh greatest and handed to a fan on a silver platter, one must seek out, dig, scavange, and search teh depths for those great gems today, amid all the flotsam.

iTunes is literally the Savior when it comes to this. And I'm no Apple Fanboi. But the Web, and iTunes, abillity to search even the most obscure stuff, means those gems can still be found.

Hell, I just found the closest blissful Floydian vibe since Floyd IMO.....and they're a badn;y named,. no-one-ever-heard-of-them band from Norway. NORWAY!!!! And I found them on iTunes.

The music is out there man, you just got to find it.

RIP to JI; I barely knew him, but I remember at a house party he wouldn't shut up about the Dead, even though we were listening to J.Geils. We were in a class or two at MHS.

Mebbe JI stays alive though JI?

Believe me, there were many discussions of just how much of that **** we would have to inhale to fail a random drug test.

Always loved the smell...BUT....

Happy Birthday Jer. You corrupted my youth perfectly. How could I ever repay you for all the good times?

Or there was the time (91?) I was tripping on LSD in Albany and lost all of my friends just when the house lights went down.

I spent the entire concert (virtually) alone, tripping my face off on mushrooms & LSD. Found my friends at a nearby bar after the show was over.

Come to find out those series of concerts I was at (including that very night) was released as 'Dozin' At The Knick'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dozin'_at_the_Knick

A long strange trip indeed.

Similar to my experience in Hamilton. It was also my first show!

If he stuck to that he would still be here.
