Went to the Pats. End of story. If I'm Ellis, have spent my entire career earning millions of dollars for the Jets, I either retire a Jet, or I take New England's money and proceed to "accidentally" lay a late hit on Brady's knee in practice and turn over game plans to Rex.

If Ellis could have got to Manning the way he did to Brady in that one memorial game the previous year who knows ?

I am not interested in person accomplishments. If Ellis had more left in the tank and could help I would sign him. Since that is not the case then I would not waste a roster spot.

Sounds silly and naive.

No.

"Giving" people records (such as Favre giving Strahan Gastineau's other record) is BS. If we weren't going to sign Ellis for his contributions, we shouldn't sign him for that.

Plus, the fact that he signed with the Pats has soured me on any sentimental value I have for the guy.

As a Jets fan, just hypothetically speaking, would you want to re-sign him for a vet's minimum and see him get 2 sacks to surpass #99's tainted stats and ugly exit (Despite reconciliation) from the team? Just curious on thoughts.

I LOVE Shaun Ellis. He was a consistent Jet and as much as I'm a Gastineau fan, I think #92 would be more deserving of that crown. I'd like to see him at least get the opportunity for the record.
Is it certain that the Pats wont re-sign him?

+1

Plus, he's pretty much done. Are you going to waste a roster spot on him for 8 weeks waiting for him to get 2 sacks? I don't have a problem with him going to NE for a year. Say I have a job with a company, and a rival business offers me 5 times more money to work for them. I go to my current job, and they don't offer me any kind of a raise, then you know what, I'm going to the other job. It was his last chance for a good payday, why would he not take it?

Exactly. Most inportant reason to say "no" is that Ellis couldn't get on the field for us anymore. Our DL is too deep now.

No, signing him for just that frivolity is beyond ridiculous. Why don't we just sign every man and his dog. This type of move sends all the wrong signals

Before we make a hasty decision can we look into what kind of dog he has?

Why?

I'm old and past my prime (and maybe a bit too fat). If Bob Kraft called me up and offered me 4 million dollars to wear a Pats Jersey all year, I'd do it too.

I could give two craps about insulting Gastineau, he quit on this team, they owe him nothing. That being said, I'm not for resigning Eliis other than for a retirement sigining or an injury replacement, cant give up the roster spot.
