This guy is our first round draft pick. He has the reputation of not playing hard. Maybe he is stupid too.

I would have loved to see Coples impact during the first week of training camp, but then again, it's only been one week of training camp.

As coach Pettine mentioned... "We’ll work it from back to front, he’ll be a third-down guy, similar to [Aaron] Maybin. Get him out there in passing situations [B]and then work him into the base defense". As the article mentioned, his play has slowed down as a result of how much he’s trying to learn on the fly. Lets not act like a learning curve isn't expected in regards to a rookie. One step at a time, I consider this good/quality coaching.

Why are some Jet fans acting as if Coples has "busted" and/or "been benched"? It's now obvious that our coaching staff is going to coach this kid up, before throwing him into the fire. Pettine clearly stated that Coples would still see 50 to 80 percent of defensive snaps. As a rookie, he'll be on the field more often than not.

Instead of throwing him into the fire as a rookie, our coaching staff will have Coples doing comfortable things first, before starting to feed him more challenging roles throughout the course of the season. We're going to coach this kid up, which sounds like a nice approach. That's the luxury of having such a deep defensive line with guys such as Wilkerson, Pouha, Ellis, Dixon, DeVito, MTV with Coples developing/learning on the fly. The ability to coach up and/or develop our first round draft pick.

As the article mentioned, we're taking a similar approach with Quinton Coples as we did with Muhammad Wilkerson of last season.
