How does she open a door of opportunity?

Congrats to her for her accomplishments, but I dont get that statement.

Maybe a few more black girls pursue gymnastics, but it is not like that avenue was previously restricted to them.

My wife was so pissed at me yesterday that I told her that Douglas won the gold. I had a work thing so I was out drinking all night - she was all set to watch the Olympics and dropped the parting shot of "Didya hear that an American won the chicks gymnastics?" She's still pissed at me.

They're freakishly talented and all, but these gymnists being 15, freakishly small yet muscular are a stark contrast to most of these other Olympians. I wonder what they do when the 25 year old lithe Swedes and the like start the party in the Village.

Am I wrong though?

Jackie Robinson opened a door of opportunity.

This girl put in the work, is super talented, and deserves a bunch of praise. She hasn't opened any doors in the quest for racial equality.

Lets call this for what it is.

I have to agree with Ruby on this one... lets not compare her to Jackie Robinson.

That's his agenda.

This is not a "shout out" to a Gold medal winner.

On a related note, did anyone see the brouhaha NBC got started following this gold medal story?

Bob Costas is commenting on it from his anchor chair... all's right in the world, heartwarming story, etc., then they go to commercial. The commercial that they show - immediately after praising an African-American young gymnast - is of a monkey doing gymnastics.

Seriously, I apologize if my posts came off a bit insensitive, but I stand by those comments.

Taking the OP's history into account, it was impossible to overlook the true intentions of this thread.

Probably best not to use that turn of phrase when discussing this topic.

Just say'in.

On Topic, congrats to her for her Gold Medal win. Can the Olympics please please be over now?

No, you are 1000% spot on.

If the OP wanted to truly do a "Shout Out" to the BEST, he would have done so for the greatest Olympian in the history of the Modern Olympics.

But that doesn't fit with his agenda.

Mods, please move to the Badminton Forum.

Honest to god I never knew that "spade" could be used to mean that.

My bad.
