Why don't you google the benefits on society of a Space program.
Why don't you google what we could do with 2.5 billion dollars of our tax money here on earth.

Again, I'm all for space exploration...not with tax dollars

Awesome. Well, as awesome as driving 1,100 miles in one weekend can be. Seeing the boy for the first time in a week (no communication at all) was a really great moment. And he was still smiling after a week living on that giant tin can and getting yelled at:

He's in the Navy Sea Cadets program. They train one weekend a month, and go on weeklong trainings at different times during the year. It's a great way for kids who might be interested in the military to see what it's about and determine whether it's for them. He's had his heart set on going to Annapolis since he was 6 years old...if he stays in this program until he's 17 it's a huge plus.

Thats awesome. Very impressive to see a kid with that kind of commitment. You must be very proud.

Does he have any specific goals? Navy Seals?

Yes, Seals. He's 13 and started hitting puberty within the last year...totally into being in shape now, with endless situps and pushups, made me get him a gym membership, etc.

Congratulations. I am happy for you and your son.

I was a Sea Cadet myself. Spent time underway with the fleet and with the USCG during my time. It is an organization that exposes you to what that world has to offer and instills a sense of pride and commitment. The feeling of being a 13-14 year old walking up the gangway to a haze gray hulk of steel to request to come aboard before steaming out for two-three weeks is an unforgettable experience.
