I just moved to a place that has a dish on the roof But no equipment. I'll only be here a couple of months. Is there a way I can get direct tv and not have any kind of contract? Maybe by purchasing a receiver?
My alternative is cox cable. Any thoughts?

Do you have any friends who have satellite?

Just borrow one of their converter boxes or have them order an extra (pretty cheap to do so).

Unfortunately I don't know anyone with satellite. Ifi buy one from eBay can I activate it without a contract?

No just a basic tv, all my lcd's are in storage until I find a house

That's unfortunate...Since broadcasters went digital, you have to stand on your head while bouncing on a trampoline to watch those.

Call Directv to explain your situation. I find it hard to believe they'd turn down a chance to make some money. I'm assuming you lived in the NY area. Who was your tv provider?

Alright, this is the done thing. Call D*. Tell them your story.

You probably can BUY a receiver from them ($300), pay monthly for 6 mos. then SUSPEND (not cancel) your account. There will be a cancellation fee if you do (?$) but according to what they told me no obligation.

Else..

You LEASE a receiver from them or partner like Solid Signal ($99) pay monthly for x months then suspend. This entails a 2 Year commtment (4 calendar yrs total if you suspend for 6 mos a yr.)
