With reports floating around that the Jets are actively looking for RT help? Guaranteed.

Probably went something like this:

"Wayne, I'm sure you've seen the reports that we're looking for help at RT. I've said it a thousand times - my job is to make the team better, and that means we are always looking to improve, at every position. We still believe in you, you've got the talent. It's why we gave you the contract we did. Just play up to that talent, and the talk will die down. In the meantime, focus on that, and don't worry about the talking heads"

Pretty much what any GM has to say to a player he is trying to replace, but may not succeed in replacing.

Darrelle Revis on poor conditioning in 2011 being a concern : " During two-minute sometimes in the fourth quarter guys would be gassed. "

It seems pretty obvious to me that they wanted a tall, fast WR, brought in a few, drafted one, just to see who rises to the top. You're talking about a back up plan for training camp fodder that can help the team if they make it.
Craig, I don't know why you're not getting this or what else can be said.

IMO Turner and Riley and White are not back-up plans. They are guys trying to make a team or a PS.

Holmes is a known commodity. Kerley is a slot receiver who is still making his way. Hill is a talented kid coming from a college offense that didn't throw the ball. His success is not guaranteed right away. He may need a year or two to fully reach his potential.

Schilens is a guy who came into the league as a 7th round pick and was always considered a project and hasn't been able to stay healthy.

So how can a team count on an injury-prone guy like Schilens and not have a legitimate back-up plan? The guys you have mentioned are not good back-up plans IMO.

What if Hill is slow to develop once the games are real? Assuming Holmes and Kerley are healthy. If Schilens is still not ready to go (high ankle sprains linger and are not quick to heal), who plays #2? Patrick Turner? Jordan White? Enron Riley? Really?

CB Ellis Lankster is in very good hands. How many players can say they're being tutored by two of the best players in the league at
their position?

That's the situation Lankster finds himself in, playing behind Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.

Originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of West Virginia, Lankster, who played briefly with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL, was signed by the Jets in January of 2011. He waived at the end of training camp and then re-signed to the active roster in October.

During the 2012 training camp, Lankster has made his presence on the field known with solid tackling and continued improvement.

“I feel like I've improved as far as slowing my game down,” Lankster said.

“I've been working on my hips, getting stretched every day. I'm trying to follow Cromartie and Revis, how they take care of their body. What I'm lacking is being consistent on every play."

For Lankster that means not to altering his technique with each receiver he faces, but rather remain the same on each and every play, no matter the opponent.

He's not the only one focused on it. Revis and Cromartie are in his ear constantly. “They both fuss at me all the time,” Lankster said. “I have the best corners to watch and learn from. And me and Cro are really close so he doesn't care what he says to me or how he says it. He'll just say, ‘Shut up and get it done,' like a big brother would.

I think I am becoming a Sanchez apologist. Can't help but feel sorry for the kid. He has lost the spark in his eye. It must suck knowing that you are going to get the sh!t beat out of you.

Looks like there could be some ill will towards the offense if things get off to a slow start. Not the kind of things you want to hear.

Dennis Landolt was spotted in the locker room today. He's still recovering from a knee injury. He is a right tackle

Dennis Waszak Jr. ‏@DWAZ73 #Jets'
Shonn Greene knows some doubt him, and he doesn't care. "I don't pay any mind to that stuff. They're entitled to their opinion."

Jake Steinberg ‏@Steiny31
Remember: we need money for Revis. Also, Brandon Moore, Keller, DeVito, Shonn Greene, Slauson & Maybin are free agents after this season.

#NFL did NOT reach agreement on new trade deadline with #NFLPA. Deadline will remain Oct. 16 after Week 6, according to new #NFL calendar

Manish Mehta ‏@MMehtaNYDN
Jets aren't interested in trading for Maurice Jones-Drew. Price tag (players/draft picks + signing him to new deal) is prohibitive.

The guy has a dislocated patellar tendon.

From what I read, it takes up to 4 months to heal.

Kerley says hamstring is 90 pct healed. He's hopeful he can go vs Panthers but says it will be game-time decision.

I welcome you to the group with open arms. Don't get too settled though, I imagine a lot of us are going to be jumping ship if he struggles again this year. His confidence will be completely shot at that point, and it will be time for us to find a new QB (not named Tebow).

Could Eron Riley make any noise for this team? Seems like he hauls in a deep pass every day from all the reports but not sure if it's all against the 1st team defense and if it's in 11 on 11s.

I don't know. I think Sanchez is more resilient than most of us think. He can handle the pressure of being a QB in NY and that's one of the things Rex liked about him from the beginning. He won't ever be lacking in confidence in his own abilities but he may lose faith in his offensive line which is just as bad.

Ok condescension aside, what would be and adequate backup plan? As I stated, they were looking for a tall, fast WR. Schilens was one of several they brought in that fits the mold, albeit with past injury problems. I highly doubt they were counting on anything. They brought him in on the cheap to see if he could contribute. I'm not trying to say it has/will work out, I'm just saying because the experiment appears to have failed doesn't mean it wasn't worth trying. Players resurrect their careers sometimes, and to the benefit of the team that gave them a chance (maybin). PS I know you have the rep for being argumentative, I consider this entertaining banter.

Looks like Schotty wants to boost the confidence of his O-linemen.
