Keller Injures Hamstring

This is ridiculous. That's 7 players now who have had hamstring problems...

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...headline_stack

Dustin Keller leaves with injured hamstring for Jets

New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller left Sunday night's game against the Carolina Panthers with a hamstring, the team announced. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported he won't return.

Team doctors examined Keller after he was seen grabbing his hamstring following a 24-yard reception from quarterback Mark Sanchez on the team's opening drive.

People point to Santonio Holmes as Sanchez's most reliable weapon, but Keller's 65 receptions led the team last season. The Jets won't take any chances putting him back on the field before the regular season.

UPDATE: More bad luck for the Jets. Reserve tight end Josh Baker went down clutching his right knee midway through the second quarter. Baker was injured attempting to haul in a Sanchez pass in Carolina's end zone. He was undercut on the play by Panthers cornerback Josh Norman. Trainers helped Baker off the field, leaving the Jets paper-thin at the position.

Hamstring epidemic
http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jet...tring-epidemic

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- On the first day of training camp, Rex Ryan announced wide receiver Santonio Holmes had a hamstring injury. And so does Stephen Hill. Plus Patrick Turner, Royce Pollard, Jeremy Kerley and DeMarcus Ganaway have bad hammies as well.

In fact, a good majority of the wide receivers were nursing some kind of hamstring injury, and Ryan sheepishly joked that it might have been his fault.

"I want to push these guys and that’s exactly what we’ve done," Ryan said on the first day of the team’s mandatory minicamp Tuesday. "Obviously, I think I’ve probably pushed the wide out group in particular a little too hard. Now that’s what we call an after-action report and that will certainly be in there."

I gotta think either this is just bad luck or the Jets conditioning sucks.

I just want a real TE on this roster.

Keller, Cumberland, and Baker are all completely useless as blockers.

For a team that supposedly wants to "ground and pound", not having an adequate blocking TE on this roster makes zero sense.

LOL

Orly Rex? Your only tangible contribution to this offense...is hurting your WR's?

What a dumb thing to say.

Consider "stfu" next time.

I doubt we're going to do the ground and pound thing this year. For real.

Nor should we.

Not with the way this team is currently built.

We don't have anyone in our backfield that even remotely scares teams. It also seems as if ever since Woody retired, our entire OL forgot how to open up a hole in the ground game.

I just hope that Sanchez's performance tonight is a sign of things to come. Because this offense is going to live and die on his right arm this season.

sucks that Baker got hurt, but maybe this pushes Tanny to go find a legit blocking TE in the "minidraft".

+1....if our WR's cooperate.

Baker's injury, if serious, will mean they have to bring in a TE anyway, I can easily see a strong blocking TE being targeted.

That f*cking clown needs to be cut, outright.

He's a liability anytime he steps on the field and seems to bring down the entire offenses performance.

Total waste of a roster spot at this stage.

Throw Vlad or Schlauderaff in there when we run the jumbo package.

There was a thread mentioning Joey Haynos earlier.

He'd be pretty much perfect for what we need.

Good blocker and isn't completely useless as a receiver.

Keller got hurt tonight because he was being a p#ssy. He should have ran the guy over in front of him. Instead, he shies away from contact, gets down and hurts himself. Unbelievable.

He'll be gone next season.

I'd gladly take someone like Anthony Fasano as our starting TE over Keller.

Fasano may not be the receiving threat that Keller is, but he's no slouch in that department, is one of the better blockers at the position and there are no questions surrounding the guys toughness.

Not to mention he'll cost a fraction of what we'd have to pay to retain Keller.

LOL. What a tool you are.

Watch the replay. That's why he went down the way he did. He pulled the hammy while he was running.

Do you ever stop with your unknowledgeable nonsense?

Watch the play. He doesn't go down and THEN get hurt -- he goes down BECAUSE he's hurt.

You wanna knock the guy, fine, but let's at least try to keep it rational . . .

Not the best night to be singing the praises of anthony fasano. Had 3 drops last night, one being a td.

They want him cut down here hes been so awful.

Fasano was just an example.

And I'd still pick him up in a heartbeat if Miami releases him.

My point is this, I'll take a "solid" well rounded TE over Keller in this offense.

Keller isn't worth the money he'll want at seasons end. The guy is a total liability as a blocker and goes down on first contact way too easily.

nobody wants to sign Shockey, maybe because he's rumored to be the Saints bounty snitch. could be locker-room issues there.

maybe Alge Crumpler can still play?
