There's an article out there, from a legit news source too, that shows how many of these lawsuits are filed simply because it is well-documented that the City will likely settle rather than spend the money (read:taxpayer dollars) on fighting what will be a smaller settlement. Much as you and "civil-rights" attorneys want to use some disjointed logic to say that this points to increased police-mongering, all it really does is re-affirm that one of the top-3 things that this country needs to have addressed is tort reform. But keep singing that same chorus of "police are the root of evil oppression', it just makes painting you any color on the loony palette that much easier. And colorful.

Good thing that I make these Police brutality/Police State stories up: Brutal LAPD arrest caught on video; Department investigating cops seen bodyslamming nurse twice during cell phone traffic stop http://fromthetrenchesworldreport.co...ic-stop/20292/ There are more bad cops out here that are hurting the good ones. How about getting them off of the force instead of blaming me for their poor work. Bet that would be more productive and save tax payer dollars |

Its a cost/benefit analysis. Period. I learned the hard way. I was sued several times for doing my job, and the city settled. Here's one Jetdorgsgs will appreciate. I was once sent to suspend an NYPD cop who failed a dole test for coke. When I got there, he was drunk/high and raging. I got his gun and shield with the help of his wife. My job was done. Except I knew there were young kids in there, and this guy was going nuts on his wife, yelling and screaming. I called my bozzes for instructions and they said leave. Thing is, I had a hunch from years of being on the street....this guy was emotionally disturbed and would take out the wrath of his suspension on his wife and kids as soon as we left. I couldnt just leave. I heard him yelling and throwing things... through the door. I called my bozzes again, and they said.... do what you got to do. I called for Emergency Services and they ended up having to boom the door... strap this guy to a board whilst he tried to bite any of us who came near him. They took him to the local hospital where he dried out. Not one of the ESU guys had a problem with it. He was a lost case. This cokehead piece of **** ended up suing me.... for violating his civil rights. ![]() The Corp. Council, which handles this for this city called me down and told me that after a "cost benefit analysis", they were going to give this guy a ton of dough to settle... because after considering the cost of a trial...they could save 5G's if they just paid him off. A coke head alcoholic "cop". And it went on my record as settled lawsuit for the complainant against me. I could have just left with his gun and shield...while he killed his wife and kids..and no one would have cared. ![]() Got a thousand more stories just like it. - |

Sounds good. You could say the same thing about the career criminals that give the minority communities a bad name. How about of two of the "victims" in your article weren't criminals, they wouldn't have been in those situations? |

I didn't read the thread but I can't help but think the City will get a huge bill when the nine people hit by stray bullets last week at the Empire State Building get around to filing suit.

I don't see anything wrong with desiring good LEO's on the streets. That is what citizens pay for. It undermines good LEO's when not so good ones are allowed to police the streets.
Bad LEO's are making the streets even more hostile. The muni's are already on tight budgets, so it would only help to be rid of LEO's who are fraudulent in their duties. In the Armed Forces, we can get less than Honorable Discharges when we are derelict of duty. This is another very serious issue that pols do not seem to want to tackle. |

Armed Forces? Marines? I suppose a captured prisoner deserves a big kiss? My experience is they get banged around a little. Lucky to be alive. As far as law breakers on the streets. They should be treated with a delicate touch? A little knee in the back while cuffing seems appropriate to me. NYC and liberal municipalities are soft. The police get a bad deal. In SC, police are respected because they have authority. And "flexibility". Some take it too far but courts and juries NEVER award stupid judgements. |

I hate to point out the pesky little fact that the NYPD is the largest PD in the country. You have 40,000 (forty thousand) cops who respond to a MILLIONS of incidents in a given year.
While there are occasional bad apples in every profession the "problem" isn't nearly as rampant as dawg or the ACLU would like you to believe.

Even using the two types of individuals is an outrageous characterization. The other issue is that the 'some' are way to many and too widespread to be just 'some'. |

I am the most considerate person there is - to decent people. A POW was a POS to me. I cautioned my men not to kill them BUT under no circumstances takes chances. If that meant a little rough - tough. On American streets, the POS deserve almost the same. Don't kill them, BUT subdue them as necesszary to protect yourself. I have little patience with the trash in our society. Citizen or not. Perhaps if more of our citizens were law abiding instead of barbarians we would all be better off. |

The sad reality is it reinforces the idea of "no good deed goes unpunished" in public service. Wonder why that public servant you're dealing with won't go a milimetar past policy for you.....it may not be that they're lazy, or angry, or anything bad. It may just be they're tired of getting in trouble at work by helping peope out beyond policy and getting crushed for it. |
