Not sure what the issue is. Dowling and McCourty in particular are agile and athletic enough to stay with most receivers and get into position but they seem incapable of making plays on the ball for some reason. Arrington has much better ball skills, but only a fraction of Dowling and McCourty's talent.

From what I read, the Wilson pick was BPA, but the problem was he carried only a 3rd round grade (or maybe low second at best). They tried desperately to trade the pick on draft day, but found no takers.

Wilson has not looked like the second coming of Ronnie Lott, but he is certainly no bum either. The claims from the Mel Kipers of the world that he was only a 7th round/UDFA caliber player seem to have been greatly exaggerated.
