But the numbers of the Sanchez deal, by some of the smarter minds around here, actually seemed to save us some dough. |

Go to Hampton, UMASS, BOISE with our few remaining picks etc. SB teams draft better than we do, always have. the kings of kool aid mediocrity will of course find fault with my post as the y glare at their 69 pennant. |

No, but Mangini obviously had a say in the draft picks and more of his picks were boom than bust. If you want to get into how the Ryan / Tanny regime draft so good how about the fact that the draft department wanted to quit after Ryan FOUGHT for Coples? How about the Connor pick that Rex HAD to have? Such a great pick, he was speculated to get cut two weeks ago.

The Jets opted to go for instant gratification and are now paying for it with a lack of depth. No one should be surprised. |

Schlegel was a 3rd pick that Mangini reportedly wanted. Connor was at least a 5th. |

Rexamillion5592 brought it up to me, but I remember Ryan promising him before the draft they would take him and the Jets brass were very high on Decastro.

Rex also told Coples that he was going to pick him. I am not going to get bent out of shape b.c of that but I can see where that might turn some scouts off. His departure was a bit weird also. He was leaving, then he was staying, then he was leaving again. Like you said, he went to work for his friend but I found the situation with Clinkscales odd. Then there is Rex referring to picks as his picks or Tanny's picks. I can see where that can bother some scouts. Not saying I agree with the other poster, who BTW got his info from Fatty b.c Fatty has discussed it several times since the draft, but I do think there was some smoke there. |

Clinkscales is best friends with McKenzie. Its no shocker that he left to work for him.

The story alluded to an argument in the draft room between the player personnel guys and rex saying that was telling them he "told coples he would be the guy if he was there" and the rest of the college scouting group wanted ingram. And that this was what eventually led to clinkscales leaving... I don't think a link will ever arise from this because i highly doubt anyone went on record about it. If it is true, its a terrible indictment of the organization, but we will never know for sure. |

However JMO I can't see Rex saying they had to take Coples just because he "told Coples he would be the guy if he was there". Then again who can tell what Rex will say Clinkscales, JMO, left to work with his buddy, McKenzie. A guy, i believe he played H.S. ball with, played and roomed with in college, and admitted they were in each others weddings. |
