Rex Ryan says Jets didn’t quit, but were tired late
Posted by Mike Florio on October 3, 2012, 1:08 PM EDT 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers says that the Jets quit during Sunday’s 34-0 thrashing at MetLife Stadium. Jets coach Rex Ryan says that’s not the case. “I think we have a reputation in this league of being a tremendous defense,” Ryan told the media on Wednesday, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “We didn’t play that way. But as far as us quitting, there’s no way. That wasn’t the case.” But Ryan admits that the Jets got tired, which is equally troubling when it comes to whether the coaching staff has gotten the players ready to play. “Late in the game, did we get fatigued? I think we did,” Ryan said. “I think we wore down a little bit at the end of the game. But there’s no quit. You can look at that tape. There’s no quit.” Whatever it’s called — quitting or fatigue or talent imbalance or a virus that makes guys play like they’ve quit — it’s not good for the Jets or for Ryan. With cornerback Darrelle Revis and receiver Santonio Holmes done for the year, it will take the coaching job of Ryan’s life to keep this team from quitting and/or getting tired and/or whatever it’s called when the Texans roll into town on Monday, and beyond. |

This guy is freakin nuts.Tired?!?!?! Why don't you man up and tell the truth, that he doesn't have a clue. How in good Gods name can he even make a statement like this. His entire off season mantra was play one step faster. The entire idea was to be in better shape and faster, then WTF happened? How can any Jet fan want this guy around anymore, talk about falling from grace.

Well, if they were tired then that's understandable. Rex should give them more time to sleep. Or maybe bring in a sleep specialist. If these guys get their 11 hours before the game, we'll beat the crap out of the Texans.

Two days off after an embarrassing loss would help too. Not only should you lose, you should have time to think about how you did it, while sitting on the couch. Rex is a player whisperer. ![]() - - |

“I think we have a reputation in this league of being a tremendous defense.”
--Rex Ryan, October 2012 "There’s one thing about the athlete: You keep telling him how good he is, he’s going to start believing it to the point that he may not be preparing quite the way he should. Rex has been the only coach that we know, in maybe the history of the game that I’m familiar with, that keeps continually telling his guys how good they are. It's rather alarming. I think these guys might be believing that they’re better than they are." --Joe Namath, October 2011 SAR I Last edited by SAR I; 10-03-2012 at 10:27 PM. |

Tthe two days off actually makes a lot of sense if you believe that a significant part of the problem is the coaching staff itself, or at least the way they are doing things. Having the players come in to repeat the same failed processes doesn't really accomplish anything.

That time away from coaching and working out will only serve to light fire's in tired bellies. Except, I heard the only failed processes were happening on the field after brilliant practices. Go figure. - |

Sar, you are missing Lou Holtz on your hall of shame. Think he needs to be added.

Knute Rockne was a hell of a coach, so you already know that his approach wasn't part of the problem
