Even been reported over here that Obama got creamed in the debate...can someone answer me why Lehrer was so bad as the moderator?
How stupid can Obama and his advisors be? He had a mountain of material to use against Romney and apparently just curled up in the foetal position while Romney kicked the stuffing out of him. So, yeah, Lehrer - why so bad? |

It was a more open format and he let them go at it. He made the debate about the candidates rather than about himself. He was a bit of a pushover, but he was a pushover for both candidates. Some critics wanted Lehrer to steer the debate and take control. IMO those are code words for protecting Obama. Obama spoke for 4 more minutes than Romney did. Lehrer wasn't the reason Obama stunk it up. Obama and his handlers were the reason. It is pathetic that Lehrer is the liberal media's whipping boy today. The man has had a distinguished career. IMO they are using Lehrer as a distraction from Obama's performance. |

But its like the NFL games when there was the replacement officials; the players played but the refs made everyone's job harder because they did not control the flow of the games. |

^ ^ thanks for the replies. Yeah, I loved Lehrer's work on Newshour and I still watch the program when I get the time, so was surprised with the criticism of him.
There does seem a lot of hand wringing from the left over there today about the debate - if Romney does go on to win the election sounds like this is the big turning point in his campaign.

None of that excuses the performance of the president, mind you. |

And yes, they didn't get to cover as much as they should have but like I said, the trade off was going more in-depth on the topics they did discuss. I think they both remained on topic. I do not think there was much fluff in either of their arguments. Obviously we always want more details from candidates but I am not sure how realistic that is to expect. |

As everyone has stated, Romney won the debate hands down.
Obama came off as unprepared and almost disinterested. Romney took full advantage of an Obama who wasn't ready for prime time. In my opinion, Obama is a shell of his former self in 2008 and Romney is clearly a much better debater than McCain. I expect Obama to step up his game for Round 2. In terms of content, I was very surprised that social issues were not touched at all. This definitely played to Romney's advantage. |

Best line I've read describing the debate was from Limbaugh:
"Obama came off even worse in the debate last night then he did in his debate with Clint Eastwood." |

Romney did a great job presenting himself and he sounded more like a presidential candidate. This was his best public speaking performance since the NAACP appearance.
I felt his voice was a little creepy, he sounded like he was trying to be very soft spoken in spots which was weird to me, but that is just a personal opinion. He had the advantage of having a record to attack and he did a good job making Obama look bad. Both guys were short on details and were way off on the facts, they both exaggerated numbers. I'm surprised fact checkers aren't available at debates to keep these guys honest. Obama just looked uncomfortable all night. He had a few decent lines, but this was really Romney's night, and everyone agrees. The 2nd debate will probably be closer since Obama's team knows what Romney may go after. I would still like to hear more details about how Romney plans to bridge the gap between tax cuts and spending cuts to match those. |

Some New Spin in Post-Debate Day 2
1. Obama was clearly too busy worried about the turkey/Syria looming conflict and mutual bombing. He has serious work as President, more important than worrying about Mitt Romney. He was doing his job first, winning elections second. 2. Obama was drugged, and thats why he looked sleepy/out of it. M.Obama whisked him away asap after the debate, because she knew he had been "tampered" with, and needed medical care. They're keeping it quiet while they investigate this. 3. Obama won because Mitt is a lair who gave no specifics. The only reason eveyone thinks Romney won is because the Right-Wing Media brainwashed people for months to expect a Romney debate win. (Sources: Liberal Radio Hosts, Radio Callers, CNN Comments, etc, etc, etc.) |
