an x-ray of my wife's brain years ago, and the wait for follow up testing was unbearable.

You're a lucky man, my friend. I am too. I often forget how hard it is to find the right woman. And then, too often, you see people miserable with their spouse. Makes it very easy to overlook the little, unimportant things that we sometimes get annoyed at.

I hope the prognosis keeps looking up.
