NJ to JFK Airport...Friday at Rush Hour

Folks-

Yup.

Tomorrow I have an 8pm flight out of JFK to LAX and I live in Weehawken, NJ. So, tell me my green friends in LI, Queens and "that" part of the world, how the hell am I going to get here in time and what roads do you recommend taking and not taking?

Any help/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

yeah - wow - that's a pretty terrible trip.

If I were you I'd take the Lincoln Tunnel to the West Side highway, down to the Brooklyn Battery tunnel, hit the Gowanus for a bit to the Prospect Expressway - then perhaps just ride Ocean Parkway down til you can grab the Belt to JFK.

Still, that's a tough trip to recommend anyhow. Leave yourself plenty of time!

Since you are so close to Manhattan, you may be better off doing the LIRR from Penn to Jamaica and then catching the Airtran.

Realistically, how long should it take us if we leave Weehawken at 4pm today...2 hours?

Would anyone recommend through Staten Island and then on the Shore Parkway (I have no idea, I'm a Jersey guy staring at a map)?

Lmao...dude, might as well kill yourself now.

You'll end up a skeleton on the side of the belt parkway.

So I'm saying either take the train or the car route adpz recommended, but give yourself 3 hours at least.

Ok.

3 hours to get to the airport or 3 hours before the flight takes off?

No call?

That would have been the perfect scenario to meet.

I would give yourself at least an hour before the flight because of all the TSA bull...So leave at least 4 hours before the flight takes off.

Anyone disagree?

Right now, on my GPS on my phone in this morning's traffic and weather it is telling me door to door (with traffic included) 1 hour and 15 minutes (and this thing usually overshoots things by 15 minutes). It doesn't look too too bad. Worst traffic in Manhattan crosstown, and the LIE going east in Elmhurst (between Maspeth and Corona)...could this afternoon be THAT much worse?

Just dont forget....you are dealing with school traffic as well as regular rush hour stuff. Thats thousands of buses, teachers...etc....I always calculate rush hour as really starting around 3 when I travel around the tri state area.

And its friday which is early blow day for many, no pun intended.

330 pm?

I hear you man, you are right. We are going to do the best we can. GF is leaving work in Rutherford at 315, come to Weehawken, change and hit the road. Hopefully hit the road before 4pm if we are lucky and we rush.
