Obama Will Veto Attempt to Go Around the "Fiscal Cliff"

Quote:
The White House confirmed Thursday that President Obama is prepared to veto legislation that would skirt the so-called "fiscal cliff" -- a battery of tax hikes and spending cuts -- unless Republicans consent to raise taxes on top earners.
So tell me, how is this materially different from when the Republicans threatened to vote no on the debt limit increase unless they got what they want?

Just curious.

Well, the material difference is they are two entirely different fiscal scenarios. The Republicans were threatening to not provide funding for money which had already been spent/borrowed. In this case, Obama is imposing a budgetary policy moving forward.

Both are/were equally stubborn in their positions.

In terms of the actual substance of this potential veto, maybe a battery of tax hikes and spending cuts isn't the worst thing that can happen? It may be better than another "kick the can down the road" solution which detriments the country's future even further. Admittedly, I don't have the details of what this "fiscal cliff" would actually entail.

ALL of our current representitives in both the Senate and House are behaving like 7 year old spoiled brats. Nobody will give an inch. There needs to be compromise. Our nation was founded on compromise.
Obama, however, has a different agenda. I believe he wants to damage the United States. Bring us in line with those in Europe. He wants everybody to hurt and has essentially said so - he wants higher electric prices, higher gas prices, higher costs for capital goods. Higher taxes (which will effect everyone). He has already achieved higher unemployment, making more people dependant on his regime.

The tax cuts were intended to expire they should let them expire for everyone and either come to an agreement on a new tax policy all together or not.
